Album Notes
Travis: Fran Healy, Dougie, Andy, Neil.Additional personnel includes: Sarah Wilson (cello).Engineers include: Gerard Navarro.THE MAN WHO was an astonishingly successful and critically praised follow-up to Travis's inconspicuous 1997 debut, GOOD FEELING. Amidst the upbeat but uninspired post-Britpop guitar scene, the Glaswegian four-piece refined the tender moments from the group's first album to produce a work of unexpected subtlety and confidence. The stunning first single and opening track "Writing to Reach You" sets the mood. The song evokes the fragility and lyrical ache of Radiohead's "High and Dry" and name-checks Oasis's "Wonderwall." From the claustrophobic "The Fear" to the mocking self-pity of "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" to the somnolent "As You Are" and the mellow resignation of "Driftwood," Fran Healy and company wrest a range of emotions from the simplest of acoustic arrangements. Only the solitary stray into bombast of "Turn" disappoints, but it still serves to demonstrate how far the group has progressed.

  Travis The man who

Strange title for this Album.... but Travis are one of the greatest overlooked bands of any time. This four piece band hail from Glasgow and really are only known for their one song 'Why does it always rain on me', which is a crying shame as this band are first class and seriously don't deserve to be overlooked.

This Album 'The man who' has the 'Why does it always rain on me' track plus 9 other excellent tracks. Described as Brit Pop or Indie again is not necessary. They are just a first rate, outstanding four piece band who deserve better recognition. I really don't know why this band isn't an 'household name' at least as big as Oasis.

Lets get down to the Album... first track 'Writing to reach you' is probably 'A' typical of Travis. Great lyrics, great sound, and vocally excellent. 'The fear' is second track here and vocally excellent. Next up is 'As you are' vocally and sound wise is a cross between Oasis, Radiohead and Coldplay... but again such a great track. Some might say slightly depressing at the start but listen to the lead guitar playing on this one.

Tracks continue with 'Driftwood', The last Laugh of the Laughter', 'Turn', Why does it always rain on me' , 'Luv', 'She's so strange' and finally 'Slide show'. 'Driftwood' is much more up tempo whereas 'Why does it always rain on me' is commercially "catchy", however for me 'Slide show' (even with the car door slamming and ignition key turning) is my personal favourite.

If you don't know Travis or have heard 'Why does it always rain on me' and liked it then it is time you listened to more of this band. Another of their albums is called 'The invisible band' (my favourite album of theirs) and the title is so apt for this band. They are almost invisible and certainly haven't had the recognition they deserve.

TRAVIS is a great band and your music collection is lacking without them.... that is how much I believe in this band.
Buy 'The invisible band', 'The man who' or 'Good feeling' or all of their albums now.

  Travis - Forgotten Album
Review created: 25/01/08

Great album from start to finish. Great if you just want to do some small tasks and play something simple and uncomplicated in the background. I highly recommend this album, this is one of those albums you forget about but once you hear it you will play it loads.
