Album Notes
The K.G.B.: Toby (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Johnny Genius (vocals, guitar); Ben (vocals, trumpet, organ); Tom (vocals, trombone, drums); Moses (vocals, bass).Recorded at Studio 880, Oakland, California. The K.G.B.'s self-titled debut is a solid first effort by a young band. Although the material is far from original, the production is bulletproof, the hooks are bountiful, and the majority of songs are irresistibly catchy. Much like Blink 182's Tom Delonge, K.G.B. lead singer Eric "Toby" Tobias provides light, borderline sophomoric lyrics. Luckily, deep thoughts aren't necessary for the good-time party music that the K.G.B. creates; precise harmonies, a few well-placed horns, and three trusty chords are enough to keep things interesting. The group's music falls under the pop-punk label. The Bay Area quintet, however, offers a bit more by adding elements of ska, soul, funk, and classic rock into the brew. Stand-out tracks include the concise pop nuggets "Goodbye Girl" and "Fortune and Fame" and the R&B-influenced odes to sex, "Long $hot" and "Lover Undercover." Ironically, the best song is the last one. "In Case Of A Bad Trip" utilizes nearly thirteen minutes of tape effectively to build a progressive rock epic, proving that the K.G.B. have much more talent (and ambition) than a factory-issue guitar pop band.

I love their unique hip shaking vibe..great fun lyrics and danceable beats..
It almost lives up to the standard of their live performances.. I find myself jumping in my seat bobbing my head and tapping the stearing wheel to the beat as I drive down the street. I love the energy conveyed in the vocals, tobi is captivating, and keeps you interested, plus the overall sound has got this great fusion of funk, ska and boyband(like candy for the swooning teenagers).
