The first thing That strikes you about this lens is the quality of its looks.Beauty isnt just skin deep in this case! The Tamron 90mm Macro exudes quality and performance every step of the way!!Optically this lens is a stunner through out ,from the closest of macro shots to the awsome portraits with the gorgeous out of focus backgrounds(i think the in word is "bokeh"..whatever).You will find it hard to fault in all areas including auto focus.I have heard reports saying it doesn`t like to focus in macro but i can tell you it does!!Ok it may not be upto the speed of my Nikon silent wave lenses but for the money it`s in there swinging.Changeing from AF to manual is a push/pull system on the lens barrel and i like it!!You dont need to remove your eye from the viewfinder to find fiddley switches just pull the ring and hey presto!I have used Tamron Macro lenses from the very first 90mm to the latest and they have always produced the goods. If you get a bad picture it`s your fault not the lens. So if you are in the market for an exceptional quality Macro lens just buy on of these babies and go out and enjoy taking pictures with it and most of all enjoy the results!!!!

Had this Tamron on a Pentax, it was actually the older model of the lens but it was superb. Sharp with a useful macro option. Bought this newer model of the Tamron for a Nikon I've bought, not as rock solid in the build dept. as the older version but still sharp and a joy to use. A few people complain about the focusing noise - its just a wee brrrrrr as it locks on, cant see this as a problem. If you've used Nikon Pro lenses you might be disappointed in the build quality just a little plasticky but a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the pro lenses so great value for money. The manual focusing ring is creamy smooth in use. If you want to capture real good portraits then for the money this is a great buy.
