I know some die hard Talking heads fanatics and purists detest this CD for its upbeat pop stylings but I don't care.
Ok. This album IS upbeat. It DOES have pop stylings. Yet there are many fine songs on it. Upbeat songs with pop stylings maybe but this is recognisably Talking Heads nonethless. The lyrics are pure David Byrne and the vocals are undeniably him. What more could you want?
There are some brilliant songs with great lyrics, interesting musical twists with a bit of steel guitar thrown in for good measure and anyone familiar with Talking Heads will recognise that the hand of Byrne has graced this CD.
I am finding it hard to say what I like about this CD because it is just so good. There is not a bum track on it. My only gripe would be "The Lady Don't Mind (Extended Mix)" but then again I never have liked extended remixes although, as extended mixes go, this one ain't that bad...
Do I have a favourite Track? Yes, that would have to be; "And She Was", "Creatures Of Love", "The Lady Don't Mind" and, of course, the unsurpassable "Road To Nowhere" [simply brilliant on its own but unbelievable with the video].
Oh yeah, and the other tracks are pretty damned good too.
As with most Talking Heads CDs the accompanying booklet shows the cover art which is characteristically good and has all the lyrics listed for your added enjoyment.
This is definitely a must for your CD collection.
