Take The Lead (DVD)

I am a huge fan of dance movies - good old dirty dancing and my all time fave save the last dance - hence the reason for buying this dvd - and what a great buy!
The film is based on a true story, about Pierre Dulaine, a New York City ballroom dancer, (played by antonio banderas)
Dulaine witnesses a youth smashing up a car which turns out to be the principles car, he goes to the school wanting to teach ballroom dancing and ends up in a room full of detention youths, all the teachers laugh about it, but the laugh is on them as dulaine manages not only to teach the kids how to dance, but he teaches them manners - how to treat women with respect and how to treat themselves with respect - and most of all to show them that they are as good as the rest.
This film will make you cry and laugh, a great watch - the music is brilliant and suitable for an all round audience (12+) hip hop - classic - romantic
I enjoyed this film throughout - the best part is that it is based on true a true story and that it shows you how you can turn your life around - if you want to.
Remember if you like dancing - "you can dance"
This is a must buy - has become top of my list for fave movies

I really loved this film -A proper deadbeats/rejects need ambition and attention film. ie just cos they want to fight/break law/ be bad teenagers etc doesn't mean they can't learn to respect themselves and each other - so the message is all good. The dancing is fab - although a little fascicle in the later scenes where the believe-ability (is that a word?!) starts to disintegrate. Antonio is his normal fabulous and extremely dashing self and very believable as the dance teacher who wants to help to change the world (or the ghetto). Everyone says 'based on a true story' but according to websites it is 'LOOSELY based on a true story' which basically means that Pierre Dulaine is a real guy who decided to teach ballroom to underpriveleged kids, but all other characters/events are not necessarily true- no-one seems to clarify which bits are true and which bits to blame on scriptwriters! Nevertheless I really enjoyed it and will watch it over and over, If you love dance films you will adore this film - but even the anti-dance folk out there may find something to like about it too..........thanks for reading - Suzie @ Smooch!!

i realy liked this film because it was a true story, for the fact some one had a lot of courage to go into a school to do something like ballroom dancing.
the kids them selves seem the last sort of people to do that sort of dancing, more like hip hop, disco was more there type.good family film, nothing that i did not like. the reason i bought it is i like antonio banderos

It was a great film. Wish i could dance like that... ballroom its look fun... Its based on a real life story.. its an interesting film looking at the 'ghetto' and then seeing how well off posh snotty folk are. i dont know any really posh/rich people but im sure they are like they are in this film.. really good film buy it if you like dancing films...

I saw this film at the cinema with my girlfriend and initially was kinda dragged along to go watch it but as i am a bit of a music producer,the production in the film and use of old style swing with modern day beats was fantastic,and the dancing was excellent too.Probably more suited to chick flick lovers but anyone interested in music and dance should watch this film

A great DVD I would recommend for all the family to watch. This is story about a school with difficult pupils who will have to learn to dance during detention time leading up to a competition. Who will win? And how will they feel?. This film will be watched more than once.

i liked this film because i have always loved dancing films ever since watching dirty dancing. i love the energy the film gives and how it makes you think about dancing maybe other people dont feel this but thats me. i decided to buy this ever since i watched it on ntl and could'nt wait for it to come out on dvd

Story is perhaps a little improbable, despite the fact it is based on a true story. Antonio is fantastic as always, and the dancing is wonderful - made me want to start the tango right there and then!!

Was recommended the DVD by a friend.............and really enjoyed it - the dancing and the feel good factor that you get from seeing it. Great film.

I personnally enjoy dancing and so thoroughly enjoyed this film. Perhaps more a lady's film but either way it left you with a good feeling. I really enjoyed this film and would definitely recommend.

I think this film is really good, i love the dancing in it so i think its ace. The story l ine prob isn't anything new or exciting but watch it for the 2 really good dance scenes :)

I bought Take The Lead on Dvd because I just love this film. It has a wide range of characters and their storylines to follow, and the dancing is incredible! It will make you want to get up and dance.
The one thing about this film that i personally dislike is that I dont think that there is enough "street" dance in it, it would have been nice to see the characters dancing background before hitting it in ballroom.
but the added in extras are great to watch and the film isnt too long either, which makes it a must see film!

If you dance or like to watch dance this is a film for you, it has all the elements raw spirit and sizzling tango. The story is for me at least a side element but does demonstrate how dance can influence social interaction of young adults and there behaviour. Of course Antonio Banderas wow......need I say more.
