The band forgoes gimmicks, cliches, and any attempts to focus publicity on a single star member. The group's passion is for addictive melodies and short, harmony-heavy rock songs, and on NASTY LITTLE THOUGHTS, Stroke 9 delivers. "Tail of the Sun" is gently poetic, simple, and dynamic. The tale of a lover's jealousy is passionately recounted in "Little Black Backpack." The bittersweet and unshakable hook in "Letters" tugs at heartstrings as guitarist/vocalist Luke Esterkyn sings, "Sooner or later all the songs that make you shake will be by me." Stroke 9's strongest asset is its radio-friendly choruses, demonstrated most clearly on "City Life."
