From the lauded director Baz Luhrmann, comes this wonderfully kitsch and amusing tale of repression and dreams, all set in the super-tanned and garish world of Australian ballroom dancing.
Scott Hastings (Paul Mercurio) is a talented ballroom dancing champion who longs to dance his own steps. this results in being dumped by his partner and chastened by all those around him, except two people. One is Fran, the ugly duckling of the school who persuades him to let her dance with him, and eventually steals his heart. The other is his father, a quiet man dominated by his bejewelled wife. Scott knows in his heart he must follow his dreams, but some are determined to see him fail. The film climaxes at the Australian Championship in a superbly choreographed and heart-warming finale.

A great film to watch on a rainy afternoon to cheer you up. The film is the typical underdog wins the day but if you take it for what it is you will really enjoy this film. Great to watch with my daughter.

You know how it is, unfashionable girl, wears glasses and has spots/skin condition, never been popular...
Meets a man she loves, he needs a dance partner, he wants her to dance without glasses, she changes to contact lenses, changes face cream, suddenly learns how to dress nicely and turns into a beautiful woman, he then loves her too!
Predictable, nothing new, but very very funny and one of my all time favourite films, if you love dancing, romance and comedy then there is a chance you will love this film.
ps. the soundtrack is awesome!

What a film!!! This truly is a modern masterpiece from Baz Luhrmann, and can happily be watched by all the family. It is hilarious from start to finish, and anyone who's ever watched Strictly Come Dancing or Come Dancing will find this fabulous for it's humour and irony of the professional dance world. Paul Mercurio is the dancing diva Scott Hastings, whilst Tara Morice plays Fran, the so-called ugly duckling who turns into the beautiful swan who dreams of dancing with him, at the Pan Pacific Championships!! Watch it, then watch Strictly Come Dancing, you'll have a smile on your face for sure!!! A+++++++++++++ Fab!!

All I will say is do not overlook this film. It is a must see. The likes of Dirty Dancing and other such dance based romance movies of the last 20 years or so have overshadowed it. So give it a try because it is definately worth it!

I bought the DVD because I'd worn out the Video! It is one of the funniest films I've ever seen! It has some typically dry Australian humour combined with downright wacky slapstick; also a great soundtrack. Every time I watch it,(and believe me, that is often!) I laugh out loud!!!
