This is definitive 80's music that marks a milestone in the stranglers' history. Yet as far as I am concerned, 24 years on it is no less significant in present day terms than it is past. The fact that The Stranglers as they are now are playing some of these songs live notably 'North Winds' [which is one of the highlights of Aural Sculpture and anthemic] is surely suggestive of this. For newcomers more attuned to Baz Warne as a singer on these songs you cannot miss this album! Hugh cornwell cannot be beaten [though has maybe been matched on some levels].
There are so many well known songs on this album that it's hard for me to appreciate why I never bought this one before.. listings include: Skin Deep, Let Me Down Easy, No Mercy & Punch And Judy. I think it's heavily underrated given it's so scarcely well known.
With arty lyrics associated with Feline, electro beats somewhat Dreamtime like and a body of keyboards like La Folie - all in varying degrees, who could resist.

If you can put up with the picture of the band members' ears, I suggest you buy this record.

  Aural Sculpture - The Stranglers

A transient album by the lads as early to mid 80's influence on style is evident. Some great tongue in cheek tracks amongst some very strong songs can be found on this CD. Skin Deep, an almighty classic of that time, followed by No Mercy reveal the original style of their music but done in the 128bpm mode of the day. They were later done with great effect as 12" remixes for the dance floor. Hugh presents his harmonies well throughout and AS is a must for Stranglers fans.
