Sting - Mercury Falling - CD 1996
Review created: 12/03/08(updated 12/03/08)
Another good recording from the award winning Sting. He demonstrates a real mastery of feel, balancing the production to give his trademark 'cool' sound to these tracks. As always, he is aided and abetted by some master muscians, all of whom know the value of what not to play and when not to play it. Lyrically, Sting can veer between cryptic and banal, and does not always pull it off. I think most of us will find the odd 'filler' on all his albums. Mecury Falling has it's fair share too, but expertly countered with gems such as the opening track, the hounds of winter. Commercial with a indie edge. TNR - March 2008 - UK
