Starsky And Hutch (DVD 2004)

It's a hoot. Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller seem to understand each other on some kind of mystical level maaaaan. And that is all you need to know slick.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

i got this film for my son who told me that it was really good and he was wrong wat a good film the ebayer i got it from told me it would take 3 days to come i got it the next day an was very happy i always read the feedback so i no if the person is ok to buy from i have been very lucky in buyin all my hings i have never had any problems with anyone on ebay

This DVD was bought after I wore the old one out from watching it so much! If you liked the old Starsky and Hutch series you'll love this. Even if you did not see the old series this film is a laugh a minute with moments of comic genious from the fabulous Stiller-Wilson duo.

Had seen it before and liked it. I like Ben Stiller and have seen him in lots of films and he is very funny in this one as well.

This film is something that you can sit and watch on a sunday afternoon while feeling slightly hung over - or on a Friday night with a few people round. I'd say age ranges should be from 15 - 30's. There are some references to drug usage, etc, so if your kiddies have led sheltered lives, then this isn't for them, otherwise, very funny film... and the two birds in it are alright too...........

I enjoyed this film mainly because it was just light humour nothing to intense just enjoyable fun. Ben stiller and owen wilson are great together and its a great partnership throw into the mix will ferrel and you have a great film the story is also good i definatly suggest everyone buys it for a light laugh lol.

It isn’t bad being Owen Wilson. If you’re Owen Wilson, you don’t really have to act. You just play yourself in movie after movie and people (including me) love you for it. For Owen, it’s just more of the same in Starsky & Hutch, but for his co-star Ben Stiller it’s time to come alive.

Stiller and Wilson star (as the title suggests) as Starsky and Hutch, in the movie version of the popular 70’s television show of the same name. As is common in these sorts of adaptations the movie doesn’t take its source material very seriously, resorting to comedy and outright parody where the original show might have opted for actual drama. But like the television show (which I’ve never seen) from which it spawns, Starsky & Hutch is still the story of two very 70’s detectives and their extremely cool car fighting crime in a city that needs cleaning up. On the case they get help from a colorful local pimp named Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg) and do borderline things that get them yelled at and predictably suspended by their Captain.

As the film opens, we dive into the 1970’s. Starsky is an overzealous cop who gets in trouble by taking his job too seriously. Hutch is an underachieving detective who plays fast and loose with the rules. Forced to partner, the two at first hate each other, only to eventually realize they work well together, even becoming friends. To solve a murder, the pair end up tackling a big time drug dealer (scene stealing Vince Vaughn), albeit ineffectually. Filled with the music, sounds, clothes, and pimps of the seventies, Starsky & Hutch has fun with its decade without clobbering us over the head with it the way Austin Powers did in the sixties.

Here’s the thing: I’m sick and tired of Ben Stiller. Isn’t everyone? I think even Stiller was bored with himself. How many movies does he do a year? Four? Five? All of them selected indiscriminately and guaranteed to be utterly mediocre. In each and every film he trots out the same tired shtick and the same tired character. Starsky & Hutch is a little different. Stiller still plays the same angry, overboard loser, except fortunately for S&H director Todd Phillips, the difference is that for the first time in years, Ben’s actually into it. He’s enjoying it. Suddenly Ben Stiller seems fresh and funny, capable of delivering a little extra on top of those old Ben Stiller gags. That’s a good thing, because though Wilson and Stiller share top billing, this movie hinges on Stiller’s Starsky. Owen still does his thing (which itself may someday become pretty tired), but unlike past performances isn’t stealing scenes. That leaves tons of room for Stiller to recapture what once made him great and just: “Do it.”

Maybe Wilson’s easy talking performances just bring out something inspired in Stiller. The last time they paired up in Zoolander was also the last time Stiller came close to being funny. This time, the chemistry between them proves legitimately hilarious as do the supporting characters Phillips has assembled around them. Snoop Dogg is a standout in the cast, but doesn’t get much to do beyond the great stuff you’ve already seen in the trailers. Vince Vaughn and most of the crew from Phillips previous film, Old School show up (including the band from Frank the Tank’s wedding) in varying capacity. Will Ferrell kills in the small but hilarious role of a dragon loving informant and Jason Bateman pops up as Vince Vaughn’s somewhat subdued partner. Carmen Electra is in there somewhere too, bli

Like this film immensly. They are so funny together. I saw it first only after seeing them together in Zoolander. If you have seen that film or if not see this one!

Great film highly recommended to anyone who likes Ben Stiller or Owen Wilson. This film is a good remake with a comical twist.

I have wanted this DVD for a while and couldn't find it in the shops, luckily it was on ebay! It was despatched really quickly in a good condition and I can't fault anything - thanks!

ANOTHER REMAKE OR A CLASSIC OLD PROGRAMME NO WERE NEAR THE GREATNESS OF THE ORGINAL'S.SO MUST SO MY HUSBAND WONT EVEN WATCH IT,MY 9 YEAR SON DID ENJOY IT THOUGH.

They did a pretty good job in capturing the 'feel' of the Starsky & Hutch TV series, with some nice camera angles and 70's-ish zoom shots. Ben and Owen star as Starsky and Hutch respectively, but they don't seem to have that kind of contrast that the original actors had. Maybe its because I've seen the other 100 movies that Ben and Owen starred in. Still, it's a funny film with some cool action moments.

Story:
Hot on the heels of his hilarious college romp OLD SCHOOL, director Todd Phillips returns with a film that mocks the television cop dramas of the 1970s. Based on the crime-fighting television series of the same name, STARSKY & HUTCH follows the exploits of two west coast detectives. David Starsky (Ben Stiller) is a by-the-books officer who would like nothing more than to expose his partner Hutch's bouts of inconsistency. Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (Owen Wilson) is a far more open-minded spirit with a tendency for meandering. Added to the mix is the world's coolest informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg), who wears an endless parade of 'stylish' outfits. Starsky and Hutch's rival is the charming yet brutal Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn), a maniacal drug lord with an absurd moustache who is prone to dramatic outbursts. Phillips uses freeze frames and slow-motion to up the comic ante, while Stiller and Wilson prove that they are a truly compatible duo, and, finally, Will Ferrell makes yet another scene-stealing cameo--all factors that ensure a long shelf life for this raucous spoof.

Great Humor, Great car, alot of spinning, the end i don't get though when the original Starsky & Hutch give there car to the new Starsky & Hutch, now if they told some story, i.e. that there there fathers or something, then i would understand.
