Starship Troopers (DVD 2001)

This pretty fab film gives my partner no end of pleasure; he really loves it. Granted the acting is atrocious and the dialogue even worse, but if you like a film where you can check your brain at the door and cope with Denise 'the joker' Richards for a couple of hours, then this is for you.

Set in the future, our world is threatened by a race of ‘super’ bugs that are begging to be blown up, and Rico is just the man to do it!

Watch it, I know you’ll love it too!

seen it b4 and was good so decided to buy it

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes

Everybody should see this film at least once, it's excellent.
So, so acting, but it doesn't matter because of great directing, and excellent effects.
A must have movie!!

In the past this wasn't the type of film I'd watch, but my boyfriend wanted to so I watched it with him and enjoyed every minute!

Fighting Bugs is a nightmare for anyone, be it a spider in the bath, or a daddy long legs fluttering around the bedroom so we an all relate to this film!!!

Starship Troopers is a very graphic film.
It follows a group of young recruits who join the army to fight some big alien bugs on another world.
Amazing special effects, and an almost unknown cast.

While there were many mixed reviews and feelings about this classic piece of film, some despising it as an action film with no point, others as a failed attempt at a comedy, i enjoyed starship troopers for two reasons.

The first was the action. Its everything we have come to expect from science fiction - large guns, larger alien monsters and hapless grunts being torn in two. The second reason is the political undertones. Blatant suggestions of the German nazi establishment are visible, with intelligence division wearing trenchcoats and heavy propaganda usage. Perhaps the best portrayal of this is the opening scene of the film, where a live news report of an arachnid planet invasion (supposedly going well) sees the reporter torn in two by an arachnid warrior, shortly before the cameraman himself is dismembered likewise.

All in all, a very funny, very violent and thought provoking film

Thought this film wasn't gonna be much good. Liked the fact that the personalities of the actors didn't clash instead they worked well together and made the film enjoyable to watch.

A Great compliment to the Sci-Fi Shooter Genre !

This film rocks! Yes it is cheesey American "We are the heros!" but they do it in a toungue in cheek way.

This takes the best out of the top Sci-fi films (Star Trek, Aliens etc) and sticks them all together for a on the edge of your seat future film.

The best thing is is that its not too far fetched in the future stuff

This is a great dvd, it has you sitting on the edge of the chair, biting your nails and jumping throughout the film. It is very bloody in places. Not for children but highly recommended for adults, but not for the weak hearted, like me.

I love this film; great storyline and actors. Havn't seen it in ages so decided to buy it to refresh my memory even though i have seen it four or five times before. Shame about the sequels they are such a let down to this great film. The third instalment is almost watchable even with its cheesy lines and couldn't be more obvious twist, like my pet budgie didn't see that one coming. Would encourage any sci-fi fans who havn't seen this to watch. Great addition to any DVD collection.

Ricos roughnecks HOO-RAA!!!!!!

Starship Troopers hasn't got a bad thing about it. This film has been brilliantly written and directed greatly by Paul Verhoeven. The effects are incredible and the acting isn't bad. Theres plenty of gore for movie fans who like that. The humourous tone as well adds to this brilliant film. The film is constantly exciting and full of action.

Plot:

The time is the future. Johnny Rico joins the military after graduation to become a citizen and for the love of his high school sweetheart. In the war against the bug aliens of Klendathu, the military is a very dangerous place to be. Johnny works his way through several battles and with the help of his friends and comrades, helps turn the tide of the war, and save the human race.

love the film and everything about it! its got a very blunt sense of humour as well as suming up the value of warfare on a global scale in the sense that everybody pulls together to reach a common goal - survival of the human race. well worth watching, buy any copy, you wont regret it!

bit far fetched but great comedy and family entertainment,for older kids tho,cos a little gory in places,but funny gory rather than, sick gory!!!!!!!!!!

'Starship Troopers' is just top drawer in every way. With tongue firmly embedded in cheek, it is a comic book-style romp with outstanding effects that still stand up today and a unique style of story-telling that beggars belief. Don't watch it expecting any depth of plot or po-faced realism. Just buckle up and become a citizen!

Recently seen on UKtv Gold and my boys loved it so when I deleted it off my Sky+ they weren't happy so found myself a great price new and sealed DVD of a cheesy classic film. Thankfully I Sky+ the sequel which is plain awful so don't think I'll be buying that one!!

Love this film one of the best Sci fi action films of the 90s. Made from the same director of Robocop. They made a sequel but i would recommend to give it a miss. This one gets 5 out of 5 classic one off.

May lack depth for some people but for no-nonsense action this film's a winner. The squemish may not be a fan of the considerable amount of gore on show, but it's not just added to make up other shortfalls, this is a very enjoyable film. The film also splits well to follow the events of two different people and shows how they develop with other characters and link in with one another. It may not be very deep but it helps to make the film less one-dimensional. All-in, a good laugh.

This film is not going to win any awards for acting or it's script... but it doesn't need to

This film takes a swipe at the USA's gung-ho attitude to war, with occasional humorous interludes in the form of TV adverts trying to recruit more soldiers to fight against the bugs.

If you take this film seriously you wont enjoy it as much. Just sit back and watch the relentless action and continuous ridiculing of the USA and enjoy it!

If you could combine "Beverly Hills 90210" with "Aliens" the result would be something like this

Ordered this for a present for my partner as he said it was an old classic. Wathced it the other night as is really good film. Will defo watch again.
