The Star Wars Trilogy ..... REVIEW 1

After many countless releases of the original trilogy in both VHS and laserdisc format it was only inevitable that we would have these classics of movies presented to us on this new DVD format. In 1997 we were served up the Special Edition incarnations for what George Lucas originally tried to put to film and what a fuss it caused, splitting the fans into two camps, those who welcomed the freshening up and those who hated it.

The problem was that the tweaks were inconsistent with some changes adding and enhancing the movies whilst others took away from the core, such as Han no longer shooting first during his encounter with Greedo. This time around the changes a minor in scope yet major in impact. In Star Wars we have a better rendered speeder enter into Mos Eisley and a new model for Jabba the Hutt used in the restored scene with han now casting more obvious shadows onto the slug. Han and Greedo now shoot almost simultaneously with Han saying "Yes, I bet you have" as in the original. Leia's gunshots are proper laser shots now and Obiwan and Vader's lightsabers have more color in them yet still suffer from strobing issues. Empire now has Ian McDiarmid playing the holographic Emperor and the voice of Boba Fett is now that of Temuera Morrisson, Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones. Jedi rounds off the changes with a shot of Naboo in the final celebrations as well as Hayden Christensen's head replacing that of Sebastian Shaw in the final group shot of the departed Jedi. Decide amongst yourselves the merits of these changes.

As for this DVD boxset release itself, the long wait was certainly worth it the fourth disc itself is dedicated to special features and is what every Star Wars fan will treasure !!!!!!

Well what else is there to say about the original Star Wars films that hasn't already been said.
I have long been a fan of thses films and they are the ultimate in sci-fi for me and they are always a pleasure to watch!
All concerned are excellent in these films and I recommend this set without any hesitation what so ever!

So there we have it, the greatest films ever made have finished, dont know about you but i prefered the original trilogy episode's 4, 5 and 6, you had all the classic characters luke, chewie, obi wan, han solo, boba fett and the ultimate baddie - Darth Vader.

The new films episode's 1, 2 & 3 were just not as good bar episode 3, first off all episode 1 - the phantom menace killed off darth maul too soon and it dragged on a bit.

Whereas episode 2 was just a love story only got going when there was the massive battle at the end and the classic lightsaber battle between count dooku and yoda.

Episode 3 was a lot better and it was good how everything connects onto episode 4, anakin just got used by the emperor and ending up killing his wife, i thought this was the best one of the new films.

There was just too much computer graphics in the new ones, whereas the original films had to build the sets themselves as everything was new.

What more can you say about these three films? There are geeks out there who will do a better job and will be best placed to tell you how Gredo was actually shot and just what type of gun a Sand Trooper reaches for in the dead of a Tattooine night.

That said, if you were male and born in the 1970s then it is almost your duty to have an opinion on Star Wars. They usualy include the fact that it was ground breaking, that it pioneered the special effects we take for granted today, that it introduced us to a cast of characters who would follow us through our next twenty years and that goddam it it was a load of fun!

PS - Empire is the best, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

These films are undoubtedly some of the best ever made and a corner stone in alot of peoples young lives. This DVD box set sees the films better than they have ever looked before. They are much more like George Lucas always wanted them to be. This set also includes a full length documentary with in depth detail about the making of the original star wars films. You must buy these films.

  Star Wars Trilogy - THX-DVDs
Review created: 20/07/08

My great grandchildren enjoy watching and listening to DVDs on their home cinema surround sound system and sets of fully enhanced trilogy of the Star Wars films were recently re-introduced in full THX cinema sound format.

A local e-bayer advertised a set for sale in "mint" condition and I was lucky enough to be the successful bidder.

They were duly collected and paid for as agreed and were exactly as described by the seller.

Yet another excellent transaction completed using e-bay.

What ever you are trying to obtain it is always worth "searching" on e-bay first.

Well I have to start of with saying that there is absolutely nothing I didn't like about the trilogy. Come on I mean is there anybody out there that can?

These films are absolutely amazing. You get absolutely every genre in each of the films. You get the romance, the thrills, excitment, sci-fi, comedy, even down to the childrens aspect. These are amazing films for all of the family.

The actors all mix together incredibly. This has been well written, produced and carried out.

I have loved these films from childhood and have never got sick of them, I could watch them over and over and feel the exact way I did the first time that I watched them.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.
