  Same series different boxset

Released this year in May, like previous Star Trek series before; Deep Space Nine sees the launch of the same series but just in different packaging.

This boxset contains the same as that of its bulky predecessor – just now without that fancy hard plastic case. All the episodes and special features such as interviews and behind the scenes footage are there.

Meanwhile, in series 6; war with the Dominion still rages on though things back on the station appears to be getting back to normal, well, as normal things get on Deep Space Nine. While others are making war in the quadrant others on the station are making lurrrrrve. Worf and Dax finally tie the knot while another pair on the station finally gets it together.

Perhaps one of the best seasons of the series, season 6 does everything but disappoint. It has it all; war, action, mystery, intrigue, romance and death. We say goodbye to a much loved character.

This is a must for any fan, even just to see Quark in drag!

Deep Space Nine Season 6 DVD

A great series, well worth buying if you are a fan of Star Trek.
As a series it does have a bit of a slow start, but by season 3 things get really interesting, and the charaters who have been built over the first few season start to get far more exciting scenes.

After watching first few series of Deep Space Nine and being hooked this one is even more addictive!.
Loads of action between the Federation and the Dominion, while following individuals story lines and keeping up the traditional DS9 style humour!
Its GREAT!!!.

  The Best of the Bunch
Review created: 07/03/08

I freely confess to being biased - I remember the first Star Trek in the 1960s (that ages me!!) and have always been a fan.

That said, I think DS9 was the best of the bunch. It somehow seemed grittier and the storylines more involved and inventive.

Perhaps it was helped by the fact the main characters were based in one place and had the action (very often) come to them rather than them travelling the stars to find it.

I found it also had some finely crafted portrayals of well-worn themes such as the classic warrior (Worf), the classic enigmatic good guy-bad guy (Garik), the lost soul (Odo) and the classic hero with a conscience (Sisko).

The women did not fare badly either. They were a pretty strong bunch who held their own and sometimes outstripped the men for the action kudos.

Even Kai Winn, with her flawed and selfish character, was played full tilt and flat out.

If I had one criticism, it would be those episodes (and thankfully there were not too many of them) that were "fillers".

If you are a Star Trek fan you will probably know where I am coming from.

If you have never seen Star Trek, you could do worse than actually start with DS9 rather than chronologically starting The Next Generation, or even the original series.

DS9 will stand well on its own and does not need too much previous knowledge of the universe in the time of the Federation for the newbie to catch onto the main themes.
