Sony VAIO VGN-T1XP/L PC Notebook

I really loved this laptop but the motherboard blew after 13 months - just outside Sony's 1 year warranty. I stupidly didn't have an extended warranty so had a choice between £560 for Sony to repair the motherboard or scrapping it. Ended up threatening the retailer with court action and after 8 months of letter after letter I've got a cheque for the repair. Sony customer service is non-existent if you're outside the warranty - you'll have to pay premium phone rates just to talk to them! So, to summarise - great laptop, not worth the risk though because if it breaks you'll get stung by Sony.

Lets dispell some myths regarding Sony and this laptop. The recovery discs are available from SONY for UNDER £30 dispite some sellers stating that they cost more.

Repairs to Sony laptop are high, but thats the same with any branded goods. most laptops have problems with overheating or failing drives. Sony use quality components, and they are possible to repair with cheaper alternatives, or by sourcing the original components yourselves.

I have maintained many Sony laptops over the years and this laptop is one of the best small laptops, the screen resolution is brilliant and the keyboard is surprisingly comfortable to use dispite its small size.

Personally I would be more wary of the sales that take place on ebay with any laptop...
Please look at sellers previous history prior to bidding to see how many times they have previously sold the same laptop. I have myself questioned several dodgy looking sellers who seem to turn branded laptops over and over amongst a group of cohorts!

BE AWARE THAT THERE IS AN INHERENT FAULT WITH MOTHERBOARDS ON THIS MACHINE!!!!
I have owned one now for over 2 years and it is great BUT despite Sony's continued denial there is a problem with motherboards. I got mine replaced under warranty but when the fault started happening I found several cases on ebay of sellers with exactly the same problem - system locks up when laptop moved. If you see one for sale with this symptom do not accept their diagnosis of "loose ram, faulty drive etc etc" It will almost certainly be the motherboard and will cost you big bucks.

Additionally I have cracked the screen once and managed to replace it with an ebay second user unit. Sony wanted £500. I have also tried some extra microdimm which worked for a few months and then started misbehaving. Get genuine ram if needed.

I have now upgraded to an 80 gig hard drive no problem HOWEVER when I put vista on there are numerous issues in common with other vaio users but mostly appertaining to sony units only. Guess what? Yep, sony don't want to know. Shame on them!

As usual from Sony, a well built, sexy looking light notebook. Not cheap but worth it. Hightly recommended.

The seller has already said there is an "intermittent" blue screening. This means like another reveiewer said there is a serious fault with the laptop. If it could have been fixed then this guy would have fixed it. This laptop should be sold as broken/salvage NOT as a fixed price.

It is broken and will be expensive to get it fixed. It is not a software fault. It is an inherent HARDWARE fault with this type of laptop.
