This Sony is easy to operate, Fits into the smallest of pockets, & has a verstile clip on the back which enables it to fit onto a thick belt or for attaching onto the neck of a tee-shirt without problem due to it's lightness.
This model replaced my old Sony PPL which I had for 15 years, which had 2 'AA' size batteries, this new model has one 'AAA' & the radio is about a fifth of the size. The only problem I've had are the earphones which are excellent quality, do tend to get knotted easily.
Although I miss the old 5 pre-set buttons on AM & FM which was extremely useful, This newer model has a toggle up & down, which is OK once you get used to it. The toggle down gives a double 'beep' when it reaches pre-set station No.1. The battery seems to last fairly good & all in all is a great little radio, Even if it lasts half as long as it's predecessor it's great value at even it's full price.

I needed a replacement radio after my Robert Personal AM/FM radio was left on a train. The Sony looked to have all the spec. Sadly when I received it I realised that it lacked one thing. Performance. It is vastly inferior to the Roberts, the FM reception is so poor that these days I leave it in my bag and read the paper or switch on the iPod. Having been an enthusiastic user of Sony products for many years I find it hard to believe that they could have put such a poor product on the market. If I had bought it from a shop I would be taking it back for a refund.

I have bought two items from this seller and would buy from them again. What is described is exactly what you get. Excellent seller.

What were Sony thinking of? As usual the radio looks and feels great with lots of useful functions. But when it comes to reception it's useless, more hiss than a steam engine which actually overpowers the broadcast making it un-usable. It doesn't matter which earphones you use or were you use it. I'm sending mine back.

Sony SRF-M97 AM/FM Radio - Years of rain and sweat!
Review created: 27/08/08

A super little radio great for sports and especially road running. With the relatively unusual (and very clear) MW band it means you can tune in to 5Live and other talk stations and still hear the cars coming whilst you listen. With the extra bass function used with the FM band you get an outstandingly rich sound. Battery life is very good. The only down side is that there is no search function, meaning you have to step through manually to find stations although you can fix them into the presets on either band once you've found them.
This is my second one, the first endured years of rain, sweat and general abuse until I dropped it from my bike and it got run over - twice! It is testament to the unit that I was surprised that it really was broken. I bought another one without hesitation despite the fact that it is relatively expensive compared to other miniature radios.

  Sony SRF-M97 AM/FM Radio

The radio is nice and small just what I need when doing activities like walking, gardening or cycling. Reception is excellent. Only point not satisfied with are the earphones the jack plug sticks out too far and no secure fitting to ears.

Not cheap but worth the money
Review created: 16/04/08

Having recently changed jobs and foregone the company car I found out how boring public transport is. Hence the search for a personal radio. This Sony model was as close as I could find to my ideal; small, AM as well as FM, a respectable brand name, with presets for both bands. I've had it now for 3 weeks and have been surprised at the excellent reception on both AM and FM given that I live and travel in hilly areas near the Pennines. Oddly, AM reception is better if the unit is held, or clipped, horizontally rather than vertically. The ear pieces are comfortable and the quality is fine, although I do listen to more talk radio than music stations so I'm not a connoisseur. The unit feels good quality and is really small and stylish, and easy to operate. The 'hold' button is particularly good as you cannot innadvertently change anything by accident, as is the auto off function that can be set to several time periods. If only it had LW so I could listen to Test Match Special on Radio 4 in the summer then it would be perfect.
