Compact item so you don't have to have more than one item to find room for. I would recommend one of these to anybody especially being a brand you can rely on.

This is one of many Sony products that looks to be a badge-engineered item.
Not a huge problem though, as it works well, the sound & picture quality is good enough.
A massive plus for me is that it's sturdily built & very simple to use. Perfect, as it was purchased mainly for my wife & kids to use, so they don't muck about with my Sony HDD/DVD recorder...
The only issue I have is that the Video deck can't get the HiFi Stereo sound from some of my VHS tapes (made on a previous Sony VCR). This is likely to be more the fault of the original recordings than this machine, as it works fine with all pre-recorded VHS tapes.
What with VHS fading fast, this is even less likely to be an issue.
