well if you are looking at buying a cheap entertainment system I'd recommend a playstation 2, if you are planning to use it as a DVD player, a cheap CD player through your TV or to play a few games every now and then but don't want to fork out £400+ for a playstation 3, then get one of these.
You can pick them up for next to nothing and if you do not mistreat the console it will behave for years to come, with stupid numbers of games available with most games you can get a hold of for less than £5.
the thing to watch out for when buying is the sellers and their description, 90% of listings I've looked at have minimal information about what you are buying, sellers seem to think that just because there is over 30 games and over £600 worth of stuff there that they should just list the names and leave it at that, some don't even do that they just have a picture.
please ask the seller at least one question before bidding, even if it's a silly question like the model number, did you know that there are 14 different versions of the playstation 2 available?, each does exactly the same job but the newer ones have added extras for example the SCPH-3000* series was the first to be released in the UK, then it was the SCPH-5000* series with a quieter fan and added built in infer-red receiver, Then moving on to the SCPH-7000* series (Slimline) which is a lot smaller and has built in online capabilities this time.
Also check their feedback! It doesn't happen so much with the playstation 2s but if you look at the playstation 3s for example a lot of the auctions are scams, the safest place to buy a console from through eBay is an eBay shop. at least you know they are a dedicated seller and you can expect good service and high quality products (as long as they are not from china)

sony SCPH-70012 PS2 ConsoleI like the console, the seller gave an accurate description about it. I knew what was wrong with it, and i knew it was an easy repair item. I decided to buy the item as it was within an acceptable price range. Overall i am very happy with the purchase of the PS2 console.

Playstation 2 - bought it because its cheaper than a ps3 and still has many games obtainable from highstreet shops and the internet. Also is completely compatible with ps1 which I owned previously. It even works better than my ps1 which sometimes had problems and graphics are a major improvement. The handheld controls aren't in my opinion as good as the xbox 360's but I can get attachments to make the R2 and L2 buttons more comfortable.

The old PS2 is a great retro buy!I really like the new slime lined PS2 but it just doesn't have the charm of the old ps2. It is a reliable relic of the end of the 20th century. If u dont mind the size the old PS2 is a great price at 30% less price of the slim. And as games are still being made for it its still mainstream.

purchase of PS2 on ebayI bought a PS2 from ebay that was described as being 'in full working order, with all leads, official 8mb memory card, joypad and stand. In excellent condition'.
When the package arrived I noticed that some pins were missing from the leads. As a result I felt the words 'excellent condition' that had been used to describe the item was inaccurate but decided this did not matter so long as the machine worked. Unfortunatly the PS2 game drawer did not stay shut when the machine was plugged in which meant the console was unusable.
I immediately contacted the seller. The sellers response was very good. They stated the item must have been damaged via the post and agreed to give me a full refund once it was returned to them. I returned the item and was reimbursed in full. Unfortunatly though paypal only allowed the seller to reimburse to my card the same amount I had paid the seller to purchase the item. This meant the seller made a seperate payment to paypal to reimburse me the extra postage costs I incurred returning the item. The down side of this was that the postage cost was less than the minimum amount paypal would allow me to put into my normal bank account.
As I am not a seller myself it is unlikely I will ever reach the minimum amount stated on my paypal account, therefore I can not access the postage costs I was reimbursed by the seller. This means through no fault of the seller or myself I am now out of pocket.
Consequently I left negative feedback regarding my buying experience. This then prompted the seller to send me quite a nasty email in response which was hurtful and has most definitely put me off using ebay in the future.

Sony playstation 2 boxThe Box has been working okay. My son was trilled when it arrived and has been playing itbsice. The memory card incuded is well and the games are working okay.I have to tarde the 18 games though. Generally excellent as to doing what I bought it for.

I bought this item on the 2nd of may and paid instantly, on the 13th of may the seller issued a refund claiming delivery difficulties. I accepted this but when i was still waiting for my refund on the 20th of may i emailed the seller to ask why. I got no reply until my refund was cancelled on the 22nd of may and i now have to file with paypal. Avoid this seller at all costs

I'm not technical so all I can say is the children have great fun! I know most people are onto xbox 5000s and wii's, but this works really well, clear pictures, good graphics, and very easy to use. You can save games onto memory card chips (which you could take with you), so when it's time to turn off the machine, they don't lose their score.

the thing i love about the consoel is that you can play games, cd's, dvd's and have loads of fun.
nearly everyone i know has got one of these machines due to the that they are so good.

My son has been wanting one for a while. We had a PS 1 which he loved but always wanted to go to my sisters to play on her PS2. This console is so much better. I haven't played it myself, but my son gives it the thumbs up! In fact I have to limit the time he spends on it.
I would definately recommend this games console. It's great value for money, not too expensive and very easy to use. There is also a huge range of games available for all ages.

I had Microsoft XBOX for quite sometime but always got drawn towards PS2 whenever I went to buy game for XBOX as there were so many games available for PS2 in comparison to XBOX.
Finally I decided to try out my hands on PS2 and bought one on EBAY. My first experience wasn't disappointing at all. Tried Gran Turismo 3 on it first time and was very impressive, great graphics and details and clarity. However I couldn't really compare my gaming experience with XBOX, couldn't tell if it was very different BUT by having huge pool of games available for PS2 makes it worthwhile.
Also getting 2nd hand PS2 games works out very cheap, I could buy 2 games on EBAY for only 4 quids including shipping, I mean how better can it get?
Now since I've PS2; I wan to go for PS3 but that won't be possible till next x'mas :) Till then I will be PS2ing ;)

My Great Grandchildren love this console.It's easy to handlefor their games and great for their music and to watch DVD's.What more can you ask from a machine.

This is the larger PS2 which is enough for me to be able to play the Buzz! games. The console itself is quite large compared to the Slim version and the fan and disk drive are a little noisy. But the actual console works as quickly and efficiently as the slimline version. The graphics are alot better than the Ps One which I have just upgraded from. You also have the option to play PS1, PS2 or DVD/CD's on the console making it an ideal all round console. Would probably be more robust as a well. Ideal for the kids bedrooms.
