Sony SCPH-70012 Console

well if you are looking at buying a cheap entertainment system I'd recommend a playstation 2, if you are planning to use it as a DVD player, a cheap CD player through your TV or to play a few games every now and then but don't want to fork out £400+ for a playstation 3, then get one of these.

You can pick them up for next to nothing and if you do not mistreat the console it will behave for years to come, with stupid numbers of games available with most games you can get a hold of for less than £5.

the thing to watch out for when buying is the sellers and their description, 90% of listings I've looked at have minimal information about what you are buying, sellers seem to think that just because there is over 30 games and over £600 worth of stuff there that they should just list the names and leave it at that, some don't even do that they just have a picture.

please ask the seller at least one question before bidding, even if it's a silly question like the model number, did you know that there are 14 different versions of the playstation 2 available?, each does exactly the same job but the newer ones have added extras for example the SCPH-3000* series was the first to be released in the UK, then it was the SCPH-5000* series with a quieter fan and added built in infer-red receiver, Then moving on to the SCPH-7000* series (Slimline) which is a lot smaller and has built in online capabilities this time.

Also check their feedback! It doesn't happen so much with the playstation 2s but if you look at the playstation 3s for example a lot of the auctions are scams, the safest place to buy a console from through eBay is an eBay shop. at least you know they are a dedicated seller and you can expect good service and high quality products (as long as they are not from china)

This is the larger PS2 which is enough for me to be able to play the Buzz! games. The console itself is quite large compared to the Slim version and the fan and disk drive are a little noisy. But the actual console works as quickly and efficiently as the slimline version. The graphics are alot better than the Ps One which I have just upgraded from. You also have the option to play PS1, PS2 or DVD/CD's on the console making it an ideal all round console. Would probably be more robust as a well. Ideal for the kids bedrooms.

Having done many types of repair on game consoles, I was suprised at the condition of this console.
Yes, it looked used, but not roughed up like others I'd seen before.
This was classed as "Not Working" by the seller and it had a newer product code.
On the day, Wednesday 11th January 2009, that this console arrived, I noticed that it looked almost like new.
It had no real scratches on it and its seal was still in place.
I set to and did the usual cleaning.
Before I start to strip a console down, for reconditioning, I used my testing disc to see a reading on how bad its functions were.
To my supprise, it started up straight away and gave no indication of any errors!

So, I continued to strip it and clean all of the internal mechanical and electrical areas.

The whole console was finaly finished and fully reconditioned by late evening and as a result, it plays and functions, as if it were new.

I've concluded, that one of the possible reasons this console was comming up with disc read errors, is because of the possibility that it did not like dirty or badly scratched discs, But! any badly scratched CD or disc put in most consoles will play the same error result.

This PlayStation-2 (Full Size) Console was worth every penny and all the time I spent in doing maintainance, in the reconditioning prosess.

I should have many years of fun playing both PS1 and PS2 games on it.

I'm delighted to find an affordable alternative to all this Wii hype. The games are much cheaper than PS3, X-Box and Wii, so this is a good console to start off with if you're thinking of getting into the video games scene.

We bought our PS2 on ebay and it arrived quickly with all necessary accessories to simply plug in and play. It's even simple enough for us parents to understand so we can join in with the kids!

I bought lots of parts for my old car opell kadett 1973.I had to buy them because I need them.Most of the stuf I bought from Germany.Even in England I bought some ,but not much .I did not sell nothing.

the thing i love about the consoel is that you can play games, cd's, dvd's and have loads of fun.
nearly everyone i know has got one of these machines due to the that they are so good.
i would advice evryone to buy one whilst they can!

I had Microsoft XBOX for quite sometime but always got drawn towards PS2 whenever I went to buy game for XBOX as there were so many games available for PS2 in comparison to XBOX.

Finally I decided to try out my hands on PS2 and bought one on EBAY. My first experience wasn't disappointing at all. Tried Gran Turismo 3 on it first time and was very impressive, great graphics and details and clarity. However I couldn't really compare my gaming experience with XBOX, couldn't tell if it was very different BUT by having huge pool of games available for PS2 makes it worthwhile.

Also getting 2nd hand PS2 games works out very cheap, I could buy 2 games on EBAY for only 4 quids including shipping, I mean how better can it get?

Now since I've PS2; I wan to go for PS3 but that won't be possible till next x'mas :) Till then I will be PS2ing ;)

I bought my son this for his birthday and it is brilliant, he loves it. The graphics are excellent, he plays lots of different games that all come up excellent.

I love this console. doubles up as a dvd player and really user friendly. You get pretty much the same deal as a newer ps3 but its a lot cheaper to buy now and you can play all but the newest games. It can be connected to the web and you can buy wireless controllers too, all for an excellent gaming experience!
I can't recommend this highly enough. 10 out of 10!

This is thicker and more bulkier than our slimline playstation but I think that helps as it makes it sturdier.

Perfect for keeping the youngsters happy when it's raining outside.

I bought it as we thought our slimline was broke - turns out it was fixable so now we have two - goob job this was a bargain......

Very good system.Small and petite but powerfull console wiv a huge back catologue of games and accessories.Cheap and cheerfull.You will get just as much enjoyment out of this system that any next gen system and at a fraction of the price!.

Didn't realize it's so much fun!I've never been kind to this kind of stuff but I decided to give it a go and it was a good decision!There's so many games to choose from that everyone will find something for themselves;)

The PS2 is pink and very neat, the controllers are pink and little girls like pink !!!!! so my 6 year old is very happy indeed. Singstar is guaranteed to liven up any occasion so the included micrphones and discs are great. There are a number of additional discs available and I have tried a few.

The newer Singstar games are compatible with the add on Eye Toy and I think this alone with associated games would be a good addition to the system (I have just purchased this on e bay and await delivery) will review in due course if given the chance

I bought this console as i already have one but i have to share it with my six year old , and i do not get a look in .I love this console as now there are loads of great games going cheap

Good value for money. Cheap games and there are loads of choice in the games and add-ons available, and since the release of the ps3 prices have fallen dramatically.

I really like the new slime lined PS2 but it just doesn't have the charm of the old ps2. It is a reliable relic of the end of the 20th century. If u dont mind the size the old PS2 is a great price at 30% less price of the slim. And as games are still being made for it its still mainstream.

I'm not technical so all I can say is the children have great fun! I know most people are onto xbox 5000s and wii's, but this works really well, clear pictures, good graphics, and very easy to use. You can save games onto memory card chips (which you could take with you), so when it's time to turn off the machine, they don't lose their score.

My son has been wanting one for a while. We had a PS 1 which he loved but always wanted to go to my sisters to play on her PS2. This console is so much better. I haven't played it myself, but my son gives it the thumbs up! In fact I have to limit the time he spends on it.
I would definately recommend this games console. It's great value for money, not too expensive and very easy to use. There is also a huge range of games available for all ages.

i decided to buy it because ours had broken . it was a reasonable price in good working order with extras.
