Sony RDR-HXD560 (80 GB) DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder

Simplicity itself to install: clear connection instructions and an automatic set-up facility. Within 10 minutes of getting it out of the box, I was watching one of 104 available terrestrial and freeview programs. The menus are clear. operation is "instinctive", and recording to either the HDD or DVD a doddle. All-in-all, an excellent bit of kit which lives up to the Sony reputation for quality and reliability.

Recorder arrived within 24 hours! Bought this for 84 year old Mum. She can work it OK and catch up with the programmes she misses due to her very busy social life.

This was purchased after many hours of looking over specifications trying to decide how to replace a HDD player I had which was not working satisfactory. My main problem was stuttering playback and picture quality.

Suffice to say the Sony is a dream. Crystal clear reception without breakup of any kind, with rock solid playback from recorded programmes on both DVD and HDD.

Their are lots of adjustments, but using the basic settings I was up and running in ten minutes. Recorded programmes can be identified by programme title unlike some other recorders and you have the choice of choosing the recording quality, ideal if you are recording lots of programmes and need to squeeze as many on to the hard drive.

Another bonus is that it will play almost any DVD regardless of region, but I'm not sure if this a standard feature or specific to the recorder I purchased.

Overall this is an outstanding product I would not hesitate to recommend.

Excellent machine. I bought this to update from old tapes. I needed the digital receiver built in and hard drive. This machine does everything I need. Recording to the hard drive is convenient and easy. Most programmes we just watch and then erase, so the size of the hard drive is not a problem. The picture from digital freeview programmes is better than from our old set top box, which wasn't the most expensive admittedly but a bonus to have a better picture. We will have to upgrade our telly now. The only downside to this purchase!

I've owned one of these for a little over 12 months now, and have just bought another for our other living room, need I say more?

It's a superb piece of kit, easy to set up, and easy to use. Picture quality on a 32" LCD at LSP setting is as good as broadcast quality. The HDD is only 80GB, but in over 12 months of use I haven't found this to be a problem at all.

Only niggly point that you need to be aware of, it will only record 16:9 widescreen onto DVD- disks, on any other disk it will record as 4:3

If you want a easy pice of kit, this one is brilliant. Enough bells and whistles to make it good, but not too many to put you off (unless you're a techno geek in which case it's not for you).

Has everything we need and more. Excellent quality and playback. Great Value for money. Great seller.

Brought this player because I wanted a built in freeview box so as I could record the extra channels.I was not disappionted with the purchase. It was easy for me to set up and now recording is so easy. Having the option to record
on both hard drive and dvd's is good. I now never forget where I have recorded what! a good buy, and my first purchase on ebay.

Basically I wanted a Sky+ Box for my Freeview Digital TV. This Sony PVR is easy to setup and even easier to record the TV Shows that I want! No more messing about with Video Tape or recordable DVD's!

I bought this to replace a Sony DVD/HDD Recorder with an analogue tuner. It's the digital Freeview tuner I needed. This Sony RDR-HXD560 was sold as Brand New In Box from a Clearance House. I paid £104.00 including packing and postage, about half retail price. Because of the Freeview tuner it is very easy to set up a recording from the Electronic Programme Guide. And importantly, it does Series Record and automatically names the recordings. I'm very pleased with it. The only drawback is the capacity of the hard disk, which half what is considered normal. I've got no complaints because I'm probably a casual TV viewer by normal standards. The only criticisms I've got are: Viewing Freeview is a little over saturated (brighter colours) and, if there's a power cut, it freezes because it has lost the channels (without being tuned it can't record so it hangs). Nothing I can't live with. I would recommend it as long as the HDD capacity is OK for you. And it's a excellent DVD player with digital sound out.

Excellent machine - it has hard disc and DVD (+ & -) recording, plus high speed copying one to the other Also Freeview - so I've got rid of 3 boxes, and replaced them all with one.
It is quiet in operation - silent when the hard disc isn't running, and picture quality is good even though I am using the ESP speed, which gives 34+ hours recording time.
This is a grade A refurbished machine - but it might as well have been new as I can't fault it, apart from having to print the 120-page manual from the web!

I already had identical model and wanted same model for use in another room.It is such a good machine and cannot fault it.Buying it on Ebay saved me a lot of money.

purchased as a second recorder for bedroom use,limited (80GB) memory is not a problem, in all other aspects it is nearly as good as the much more expensive 250GB panasonic unit which is our main TV/Film storage
