THIS UNIT ALLOWS ME TO RECORD ANY INPUT TO EITHER DVD OR HDD AND EVEN FROM EITHER TO EITHER.IT IS SILENT IN OPERATION AND HAS ALL BELLS AND WHISTLES ONE WOULD NOT NECESSARILY EXPECT. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW TO EXPLORE WHICH CANNOT FAIL TO KEEP YOU BUSY AND AMAZED AT ITS VERSATILITY. I bought this model new in 2006 new at £399. It is very good HD recorder - easy to use and very reliable. I bought two additional ones on ebay for back up storage and to set up separately with a video tape recorder to transpose video to DVD.
Later models have a bigger hard disc but I have found 80GB sufficient so long as I make DVDs of items I wish to keep and then delete them from the HD.
I bought Sony because of my experience of Sony reliability.

I decided to buy this to replace my ageing video recorder and to be able to copy my Video tapes to DVD. Since owning the recorder I have been very pleased and surprised at what it can do. The one drawback is that this model will only work with region 2 DVDs, however the previous owner had amended the software by using an external controller so that the recorder can now manage any region - definitely a plus and a facility that I wanted. I have found it to be very reliable and not too difficult to operate, however the operating manual is an added bonus although a copy could be downloaded off the net. A very sound piece of kit.

Very easy to use. It has a function, that the new models from Sony doesn't have. It has danish menu.
