Sony RDR-GX120 DVD Recorder

I chose this item as it was new and still in the box and I wanted the item as a Christmas Present for my Son - I chose the Sony RDR-GX120 as it was mentioned in Which magazine as a good buy - so far it seems to be excellent.

I would recommend this DVD recorder to all. It looks great, is very easy to use and plays and records to a very high quality.All this is backed up by the Sony name.10/10

A very good price for a new machine, arrived promptly and works fine for what we want from a recordable DVD although I do find, however, its a bit slow so you need to give yourself a bit of time to programme.

i have bought this dvd recorder new from shop for 260$ in france. there is 70% less playback formats than usual dvd player has, no screen menu for pc cd, difficult to use, many configuration settings, if you don't use it every day, every time you must refer to manual. i'm not satisfied this product.

Its easy to use, I like the fact that you can erase a +R dvd unless its been finalised. Bad points are that it wont allow pause function whilst recording from old tapes, instead you have to press record stop and then it will just bulid a new chapter. Not good if you have many quick pauses to make. But I may be doing something wrong as I am not entirely familiar with it yet...so dont let this put you off. ITS A FAB MACHINE for the price I got it for. retail at over £120 in shops.

I had already priced this and here it was, on offer, he said, because he had got it free with a TV. I couldn't believe my luck as it was at least £30 cheaper than new. However, it was just what he said it was, never used, and in perfect condition. Just lucky!

Item looked good but when it arrived it did not work I Am still trying to get in touch with sellers but to no avail ... Will contact Ebay to sort this very soon I am not very pleased at all !!

I thought I was buying a good make and I am sure that this model works very well but I think I had a bad one and I did return it with no problems after a few emails since I have bought another model through Ebay which works perfect so I am very happy thanks BoB England

I made mistake in bidding, I thought it was a player. Now it is only a white elephant and I could not even configure it. Sorry it was a mistake buying it.

Easy to use and straight forward to follow instructions expecially the easy setup mode.

decided to buy one because i wanted to transfer some things i had recorded from sky+ to make room on the sky+ hard drive. very good quality item. easy to use, and a bargain price for how new it is.

easy to understand and use as a player, a little more difficult as a recorder. nice simple remote and plays any type of dvd

Analogue only so now getting limited as a recorder - however - Has the same DVD RW drive as the HXD860 making for a cheap repair if you know thats faulty (indicated by C13:00 error)

I needed a DVD recorder because my previous one had broken down. I was attracted by this one becuase it combined a highly respectable brand name with a reasonable price. (In the shops, in my experience, we can get one or other, but not both.) I also wanted a simple DVD recorder - not one combined with a receiver, a hard disc recorder or anything else - and these are becoming more scarce.

I have been very pleased with it. The main reason is that, unlike most pieces of electronic equipment that I have owned, it is very easy to use - intuitive and user-friendly. The on-screen menus are easy to access and to understand. No doubt there are facilities that I have not yet discovered, but the basic operations are extremely straightforward.

In fact, I have only one small complaint about it so far. When I start a recording, there is a few moments' delay before it actually begins to record. So it is difficult to judge exactly when to begin - too early and I get an unwanted fragment of the TV announcer's chatter before the programme, too late and I miss the opening of the programme. There may be ways round this - perhaps the chatter can be edited out of the DVD - but I haven't yet explored this.

In any case, this is a minor annoyance, and it would not stop me recommending the machine to anyone who wants just a DVD recorder that is reasonbly priced, simple to use and works well.

Records disks in formats running from an hour per DVD to 8 hours through 4 and 6 hours with no detectable drop-off in quality at 6 hours, and not too much even at 8 hours per DVD
Plays back on the same machine at high speed forwards and reverse
No slow-motion or frame advance, and disks don't play on my computer
Reason for purchase - 23 running feet of videos have to be reduced before a possible house move

Do NOT buy this recorder if you need to PAUSE while in RECORD mode; It will pause while in PLAY mode ONLY !!!
How Sony can omit an essential function surprised me so I am now selling it.
Otherwise it is a very good recorder of excellent quality and looks smart.

I decided to bid on this item purely based on it's 'Sony' credentials. I should have researched it thoroughly. It is infuriatingly slow, 'INFO WRITING' flashes interminably at you when you are trying to get the thing to relinquish a disc in order to get a fresh one in for a job.

After researching various dvd player/recorders, the Sony model came out, technically, streets ahead of the opposition and I managed to secure a GX120 at a sensible, secondhand price, which operates perfectly and was in very good condition bar a minute indentation on the top of the casing which had already been brought to my attention by the seller.All in all, overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and will continue to use E-bay in the future.

Ilove the DVD recorder because its sony,the price at new is very good so mine was a bargain. It is eay to use,nice to look at,good quality pictures and sound,not a fault to be found with it. Also as with previous purchases from Sony the help is very good,not that i have needed any with this product.

Its a good brand that works well. Plus the quick set up feature had me watching sky + via the recorder in a matter of minutes.
