Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console

I bought this as a present for my boyfriend. We're short of money and I knew I could never afford to buy a new one, or a new PS3, so I looked on ebay to see what was available.

I got this PS2 Slimline console for 78 pounds, complete with two memory cards, 13 games and all accessories.

It came the next day and was exactly as described and in perfect working order. If it had been in the original box I would have thought it brand new!

My boyfriend was exstatic and we've hardly spoken since, as he is plugged into this thing most of the time now and I have been relegated to the bedroom to watch my tv programmes.

So, if you want to spend more time with your other half, I don't recommend you buy one, but all jokes aside, my boyfriend is really happy and so I'm happy.....plus I can now watch Emerdale, Corrie and Eastenders without critism :-))

Excellent toy to spend those lonely evenings, or just an excuse to invite friends over to play some singstar, buzz or even eye toy! I already had a PS2, but I switched to the slim version, as it is so small with all the features of the old one! It fits much better anywhere, and its one less weight when moving house! Highly recommend it if you want to get a video game console and don't have the money for a PS3 or XBOX360. Another great detail is that it reads DVDs as well as any DVD player.
I must leave a final remark in terms of resistance. The slim version seems way more fragile than the older version. The DVD compartment on the old version is quite resistant, and it opens and closes accessing a button, while the slim opens via a button, but it's closed by pressing with the hand, which in my opinion is a bit dangerous if handled by children (dangerous for the PS2, not the kid!).

The product was well packaged and delivered really fast which we really appreciated as it was meant for a present. But unfortunately the sender forgot to mention that the computer doesn't like reading games that ave got the slightest and fewest of scratches, which was disapointed. As you can appreciated this can be expected from a second hand idem.

I was very happy to see this arrive. With the new PS3 out all the PS2's are being sold for good prices with games included. The item I bought had exactly what I wanted and was sent to be in very good condition. I would recommend if you need a console that has a lot of games you buy a PS2 in good condition with all the games with it. I did and I love it!

We decided to purchase a used PS2 for our sons 9th birthday . The intention was to take this to our holiday home in Spain which would then allow him to enjoy his PS in Spain as well as in the UK and to move games between the two homes.

Unfortunately the PS2 unit arrived with only one of the eight retaining scews which hold the unit and case together in place, (perhaps it had been poorly repaired at some time) and it did not funtion at all. We suspect that it may have been damaged in transit as the internal component parts would not have been held in place during transportation.

We had such dissapointment on the day(his birthday) in Spain when it was opened and the unit did not operate.

We went to media mart the same day and puchased a new unit.

The purchase was only really saved by the 10 games which were included in the package. As nine of them functioned it was worth the £60.00 overall purchase price as it would have cost us at least £90.00 pounds for the games even if purchased as used in a store.

Moral of the story for us was, great way to puchase games at a reasonable price, but wont touch electronic goods purchases via Ebay again.

i love that its slimline unlike old chunky fat model this will fit into most places easily and looks nice. i bought it with buzz which is a great group game for all and u can buy many other games for this (kids and adults alike)
also singstar which is karaoke in ur own home with fantastic songs and videos this also have loads more songs u can purchase, a must for any party.
overall this is a great item and is lots of fun graphics not as good as xbox or ps3 but for your money its great value. Also has more games available at reasonable prices than the xbox and ps3

The Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console was a cracking deal. The console is a great improvment on the older PS2 colsole been smaller and easier to clean the laser.

I have been looking to sell my PS2 (slim) on e-bay and have been horrified to see lots of listings that say its a SLIM only to find when you zoom in on the picture, the consoles are in fact the older style (not that there is anything wrong with them). I just find it rather annoying to see these listed in under the wrong name, so my advise to anyone buying themselves a PS2 SLIM (not much bigger than a couple of DVDs stacked on top of each other) make sure you look at the picture carefully (the older ones are a lot larger and noiser). Maybe e-mail the seller if you cant tell from the pic or are unsure. As I said there is nothing wrong with the older style, I just know how I would feel if I was expecting a SLIM and got the older breeze block instead.

Other than that I have loved every hour (and there have been an awful lot of them) I have spent on my PS2, and being a female there are stacks of games out there to play that dont always involve shooting everything in sight (mind you I am rather partial to the odd shoot-up, especially after a bad day in the office)

My daughter has also gotten a lot out of playing the PS2, so much so the teachers at her school have commented on her quick reactions to puzzle solving in maths for instance, and they said video games are bad for kids - I beg to differ.

So if you are about to invest some hard earned dosh on a PS2 I highly recommend them to all genders, and all ages as there is a huge variety on gendre (types of games) and you prices are so much cheaper than XBox, Wii and PS3. So go on give it a try - you wont be disappointed, just look at what you buy first, carefully!!!

I know I'm supposed to start off writing about the PS2. But. I am biased towards the PS1. Always have been. The reason is because it succeeded all the early NES & Sega consoles, changing the whole way gaming was set out to be. It truly brought the arcade into your living room. Also I have fond memories of keeping my daughter happy while we played the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, Croc and Tekken. Bishi Bashi is one of the all time party greats. That should be re-released..

Anyhow she eventually upgraded to the PS2 large console, which I complained at the time that the game disks were of inferior quality compared to the PS1 - she once scoured a Toy Story 2 PS1 disk with a brillo pad; and it still worked. The PS2's cdrom/dvd disks seemed to scratch really easily and stubbornly refused to be recognised by the machine (disk read error!!). Not only that, the load times were incredibly slow, and my love affair with sony playstation quickly dwindled.

However, tiring of the problems, she traded it in for an Xbox. That was even worse for the dreaded disk playing problems. And as for the controllers! - the wires are so flimsy they fell apart repeatedly. That was it for a while. She had to either play the PS1 - which is still going from 1999 - or contend with her Nintendo DS. I refused to shell out good money for a 360 or a PS3 (though we are tempted by the Wii..)

Cut the long story short, it was with some surprise that she wanted to buy a PS2 again from Ebay. I was skeptical of her buying the original console, and suggested she should go for the slimline smaller one. Not only were they more compact, but I knew they would also not be as ancient as the previous noisy hefty models. She found herself a good bargain - console plus 8 games, 4 controllers, 2 memory cards - for £50 and waited (impatiently) for it to arrive.

Well!

What a difference it is to the big old original PS2. Smaller, quieter, and works beautifully. With a lift up lid it is also much easier to maintain the lens and keep clean - something I always suspected was better about the PS1 too.. I was so taken with it that I went out and bought 80's Singstar. We had great fun warbling to Blondie and Wham! - though I suspect the neighbours were far less impressed. I've heard car alarms keep more tune than we did.

If you are thinking about buying a PS2, I recommend you settle for the slim line model. And the games for it have gone so cheap these days you can pick them up for pocket money prices. Yes, I forgot just how good the games are overall. Much better than Xbox, and with more choice. And as if just to prove a point to Microsoft - PS2 consoles are still available in shops selling for close to £100 brand new, £50 used. Whereas the original Xbox has sunk into relative obscurity. You can pick one up second hand for a tenner in Cash Generator. Thats a tenner too much in my opinion.

The slimjim PS2 is the console that should have followed the PS1. My daughter is more than happy with it - in fact she's in the other room right now still playing Singstar.. I just might have to invest in ear plugs.. I've fallen in love with the Sony Play Station all over again..

My daughter is going to be 9 at the end of this week. She has a xbox but all the games for it are mainly for boys, I wanted a ps2 as the games are more focused on both. I feel out of all the consoles available this one is the best unisex console. Very happy with it. And I am sure she is going to love this!

like the fact that many games came with it.it is in very good condition.we bought it because my wife is a childminder and it keeps the little beggars quiet for a while.

The console, the controller and all games are working perfectly, but the television adapter doesn't work. I've had to buy a new one.

I bought it because it was pink! I've just had a baby daughter and having spent the last 10 years surrounded by 'boys stuff' for my son,I've gone into pink overdose mode. I'm sure it'll wear off but for now I'm loving the look of my pink PlayStation.
My son has gone through several of the old style consoles over the years and because of this I wouldn't buy any PlayStation in the shop anymore - it just works out too expensive. When I say he has gone through several of the old style consoles this is not through mistreatment, but through normal usage. Obviously he has loads of games that he is desperate to play and my husband is a games junkie too so it was agreed that we would only get another one if we could find a cheap one on ebay. Then I saw this - and yes I bid more than I had said I would! But I justified it by saying that the got to play their games and it looks much nicer than the old clunky ones looked in our living room.
There is one big snag to this PlayStation though (and I have since been told that this is a problem with many of the slim consoles) and that is that you have to make sure that all the clips that hold the game are properly in place, and this often means spinning the game whilst pressing it firmly around the centre as it is not obvious which clip hasn't caught the game. If the clips aren't in place then the disk can't be read. This happens A LOT.
Apart from that, its a PlayStation - does what it says on the tin really! Plays all PS1 and PS2 games. Microphone and camera attachments are available for some games, and it can support online gaming, with a network card built in which is an advantage over the bulkier ones (if the game features network play). I think the pink one actually comes as part of a set with a microphone and Singstar game, but the seller did not sell the microphone with the PlayStation I bought - the microphone was not mentioned in the listing so it wasn't a problem and I already have a microphone.
I'm hoping that this one survives for a while - might have more luck as we also have an XBox 360 now which they prefer so the PlayStation will not be used as heavily, although the slimline one is a lot more fragile so we will see...

The Playstation 2 is a proven good product, having been on-sale for years. There are lots of games available. In this 'package', 29 were included and cater for all levels of proficiency. It is light, easy to transport and has proved very popular with all age ranges. The rating I've given is it's for it's suitability for our requirements.

The Playstation is fab, however I didn't realise that I might have needed a memory card and another remote thingy so was a bit disappointed when playing the games and not getting the most out of them. Would recommend that a memory card is purchased as well as the playstation.

i like sony playstations there hasnt been 1 out that i havent liked i decided to buy this sony playstation 2 because i wanted 1 and the pink 1 was a bonus for me im goin to enjoy the hours i play on it and the next 1 for me to get will b the sony playstation 3
