Sony PlayStation® 2 Console

It's the quality games and excellent joypad that makes PlayStation 2 really good. Fortunately the PS2 has kept the same Joypad (+ all analogue instead of digital buttons!) and updates of our favourite games such as FIFA and Grand Turismo.

Graphically its very much better in every respect to the old one, having 32 Mb of RAM, a 128-bit running at 300 MHz and a 150 MHz Sony graphics chip that can do about 66 million polygon per second.

The PlayStation 2 is NOT as fast as a PC tested against a GeForce 2 Ultra and AMD 1.4 GHz on the first person shooter Red Faction.

Grand Turismo looks and plays even better. The FIFA game too looks good, but again the PC version looks graphically better which brings the PlayStation 2 into perspective. Other footy games include 'This is Football' which is graphically better but Pro Evolution Soccer exceeds in game play. PES4 is the new version coming out and is definitely the leading football game around at the moment - it is certainly my choice to buy.

The PS2 also plays DVD films and is well worth the original £200 asking price if you don't already own a standard DVD player.

For 3 years after its release, it was THE console to buy. But along came Microsoft's first console, the Xbox, which looked like the fastest and best quality console to come out. Then came Nintendo's new console the GameCube which has also changed many people's perspective on what to buy.

A silver version came out earlier in the year, also a new 'slim' PS2 which is 75% smaller (now available in black or silver), will be available before Christmas. The PS3 will be available for purchase around mid to late 2006.

All 3 consoles are very good, but its the quality and range of games available that makes the PlayStation 2 my choice of console. If you love your sports, and are prepared to pay the extra then this console is for you!

I bought this on behalf of my 7year old son who had saved his pocket money up. The console is excellent. Even though it is not the latest one out you can get some great games at a more reasonable price. It is easy for him to control and he loves it. You can still buy new releases for the console which means he can be up to date with his mates. It also doubles up as a DVD player which is excellent. Well worth buying for a younger child. Would highly recommend it.

I'm sure my son would have loved the Playstation 2, however it has never arrived despite him paying immediately - 17th August - and having lost all the money he paid for it!!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING FROM THE SELLER KNOWN AS TINGLECHICK OR SEAN EMMERSON....!!!!

PS2 is still a good product and we love the interactive games that were included. A great buy, real value for money.

Playstation 2 was in good condition with few games added. I bought it for my granson he is over the moon with it. I bought this playstation because it was a good price and also the games included where for the age group which my granson is.

This machine is a dream. Much lighter than the standard machine and you don't have to have the console on to take out a game. Just press a button and the case at the top opens.

This console is now 'Old-School' since its big brother PS3 came along, but nevertheless its still a great console, offering fantastic games such as Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy and much more! The graphics on this console are just great, i remember playing quite a few games and feeling like i was actually with the characters because it got me involved that much. The Controller didnt change from the first playstation but the colour did, and it also brought along the memory card which allowed you to play either PS1 or PS2 Games on the console which saved you having to have your old PS1 out all the time. I can barely fault this console, it sometimes gets very dusty and has to be dusted regulary to make sure the dust doesnt get inside the components but its a great console and now that the PS3 is out its very affordable and people will still get a lot of use out of it even though it might be a little older. Great console.

After staring at my, repaired twice, now out of warranty, so dead Xbox 360 I realised that I could revisit some classics of the PS2. I googled a top 10 PS2 games of all time and purchased a new PS2 and am enjoying clasics like Gran Tourismo and Final Fantasy. This was and still is a fine console.

this is just what I expected good clesr graphics and easy to use.
Just complex enough for all ages to use even young ones.

The playstation 2 is a very good console. It has a massive selection of games for every type of gamer, whther you're a casual gamer or a hardcore gamer.

The controllers aren't as comfortable as the controller for the xbox or the xbox 360 though.

Our ps2 broke and i had already bought my son some games for his birthday. So i decided to bid on this item in good faith that it was as the description said, a ps2 in good working condition. I was very pleased with the delivery and communication, but my son was very dissapointed when he couldn't play his new games for his birthday.

I bought this playstation for my younger chldren, it was the old style playstation, big and chunky and just right for little ones. My older children have the slimline version but the old style in my opinion is more robust and better for younger children to operate. If you are lucky and get a good older machine then you should have no problem playing any games on it and there are some really good educational games for pre school children, my sons favourite is Dora and the Purple Planet, not all games are bad you just need to be careful what you buy.

Our first venture into gaming consols (apart from ds lites). It did not come with any instructions so the first thing we had to do was work out where all the cables went and how to switch it on (switching it off proved to be the problem!). Then we found out we needed a memory card... Once we have got all the extra bits we needed (and bought a few games off ebay!) we were great and my kids both love it.

The Playstation 2 has been a staple of the console market for many years. Now, nearing the end of it's life, it's still a potent console that has a wide selection of games, which is to this day still being expanded.

It may not have the huge online functions of the current generation consoles, and it may not have the most powerful graphics on the market, but the Playstation 2 is extremely cheap, hardy, and accessible. And (most of) the games are goodies and cheapies, too!

A console that still has a place in any console gamers collection (as even the backwards-compatible PS3 doesn't get it right all the time!), and probably will keep that place for many years to come.
