Sony MDS-JE520 Mini Disc Player

Whenever you want a decent item, it's either discontinued, out of stock, or too expensive.
Very rarely do you find an absolute bargain, but I did!!
The JE520 I bought was in pristine condition, at a surprisingly low price, with quick delivery, from a prvious owner who treated with total respect.
The unit functions perfectly, and is better than the MDS-J510, which I've owned from new.
It was bought on behalf of a friend, who needed it immediately, and who is delighted with it. He was very surprised how much I'd saved him, on the price of a new machine. OK, so he didn't get a guantantee - so what !!
My own experience of these machines is that they very rarely go wrong, if at all - I've owned mine for more than 10 years now, without any problems at all.

The MD player does what it says on the tin, but it does have some minor failings, firstly it has a large footprint , about 18" by 12" deep when you include cables, the remote is HUGE 1" deep, width is 2.5" by 8" long, if you don't get a manual then you need to download one in PDF and print it out, sound quality is excellent and it has an optical output, but a portable MZR55 won't record from it, so it's hard to duplicate discs for the car. It does everything I require but is now made obsolete due to iPod and MP3 players, but if you want one to play MD on in a study or similar it's the dogs nuts!
Fits in a niche and fits very well if that's what you want but other better faster smaller alternatives are available now.

Having serviced these unit when employed, I decided in my retirement to get hold of one as they were so good and top of the range in their time. If you get a chance to buy a good one at a reasonable price go for it, you won't be disappointed.
Unfortunately the Ebay seller was a dealer of these units and the unit I bought was obviously a collection of all the individual bits that he could not repair or were completely unrepairable. I agree it was listed as faulty but not one thing on it worked. The complete unit was rubbish. It was also very poorly packed and arrived with the PC board cracked (or was it broken before sending?). I have since bought a good one and it is fantastic!

what can you say its a sony in its day one of the best only prob no connection for down loading for internet usb as with the newer ones but you can easily get round that. very stylish remote slim compact unit.Description:- ATRAC 4.5.

wanted to get that model cos it was a top of the range one in it`s day. Decided to go for it as it was listed cheap and was`nt sure wever it worked. Found out it wrked but the opening for the disc needed ajusting

Great mini disc recorder/player. Have used this model for well over 10 years without any problems. Highly recommended.

I am very fimiliar with the mini-disc system and I have used it extensively for many years. I needed another drive and foolishly decided to use e-bay. The drive arrived very poorly packed and simply does not work. It rejects all discs, blank and recorded. This was my first purchase on e-bay and I shall not use it again.

I was very pleased with my purchase of mini disc player,my one packed in that I use when gigging and it was a great relief to see one for sale.It came well packaged,very quickly.I am a musician and although I have another one,it is set up and only is used for working at home.

I already own two Sony 510 players ...one won't now record (any ideas) I have had good service from both of them over 10 years....So I bought a very good condition Sony 520 on E bay ...but I think the 510 is more user friendly.....you do not need a remote control to set recording levels.

I purchased the item as it Is a good brand name-SONY, I used to own a sony minidisk and over time I wore it out..
Anyway I needed a minidisk for my job being a singer and since then I bought 2 others which are pocket sized..
What I dislike is recording side as I found it to come across distorted on playback.. Hense y I bought another 2
