Sony MDR-NC6 Consumer Headphones

Whilst waiting for these to arrive I got some of the Bose QC3 headphones also - they were around 10x the price I paid for the Sonys.

The MDR-NC6 considerably reduce the background drone on trains on aircraft but as they have a foam cover on the speaker they do not give the same physical barrier that the Bose do. It would appear that most of the noise reduction is from the physical barrier rather than the magical electronics.

The Sonys are worth the money paid (for the refubs)and will 'do' for a long flight. If you can afford the quality, go for the Bose - they are great, look more durable and are certainly more comfortable.

I returned the Bose - the difference was not worth the extra £210 - but I will always lust for the Bose.

One final thought. I wore the Bose on the Underground in London. Perhaps I was paranoid, but walking around with the Bose name on my ears made me feel a target - if anyone knows anything about these things they will also know that you probably have a decent mp3 player at the other end and maybe decide to deprive you of them.

Pro's:
I like the way these headphoned simply get rid of the ambient noises.
They take a few moments to engage after switched on, then it simply goes quiet around you; especially when traveling in a plane or train.
Then once you switch on your music, it gives you a purer music quality with much less interference.

Con's:
The headphones are a bit bulky, although the folding earpieces helps with easier storage; I would like to try out the in-ear noise cancelling earphones.
These would have been much better if they were wireless.

decided to buy some better quality headphones for my ipod as the ones that i have are okay but wanted an upgrade,noise cancelling set seem to be the way forward as i wear mine at the gym and wanted to drowned out the terrible background music that is played,my original set allow the background music to be heard over my ipod.checked a few price comparison sites and came to the conclusion that for the kind of price i wanted to pay the sony nc6 set would do the job,received my pair and must say i wasnt disapointed,very comfortable and the quality of the sound is excellent,you can pick out different instruments and vocals far clearer,would deffinetly recommend them for the price they are great,when you consider you can pay upto £300 for a pair,cant say the difference would be worth it from quality for the price....enjoy them i do!!!!!!!!!

A very comfortable pair of headphones that look and sound amazing. Bought to replace the standard Ipod rubbish these phones have a good deep sound and the noise cancelling function works extremely well.
A great investment for portable or home use.

price, frequency range and style are pretting high on my critical evaluation, sony are always trustworthy!

I was looking for a way of cutting out the extraneous noise from my young colleagues in the shared office at work. My hearing is badly impaired already and I have no intention of sitting through loud music and other noise which may further damage it, without at least *trying* to do something about it.
These headphones really do reduce the ambient noise quite markedly. If I want to listen to the cricket while others are playing noisy music at 90dBa or more, suddenly I can hear it without turning the volume up unpleasantly. They even work when I'm not listening to anything myself and would like to reduce the enforced sound levels - as long as I remember to turn them on.

I have always accepted that being twice as old as most of the others and three times as old as some, means that it is up to me to conform to the majority. At least I can now be a little more comfortable doing so.

Only drawback? The boss has to tap me on the shoulder before I realise that she's there because I have no chance of hearing her coming. Not a big deal as I didn't hear her that often before, until the last moment.

bought these as an upgrade to the standard ipod ones, very good sound and lightweight would recommend.

it controls the low noise that prevails in the room like fan/AC noise. Of course not the sounds cancelling like the sound of door knocks etc.
