I had a long chat with a very helpful assitant who explained that all TV's are going to be High Definition, but my present TV isn't.....and as I wanted a camcorder I had to decide if I was going for one I could use now, and replace it when the TV changes OR I could be looking for a dual setting, Standard recording and HD, which led me to this model. As I am not very good at understanding how electrical things work...I was very pleased that I understood all the instuctions myself - without asking my children to explain it to me. It deals with each instruction clearly with diagrams, each instruction is on a new page, really easy. The playback is very clear, it gives a separate heading for each time it stops recording, and you can touch the screen where you want to start veiwing from, you can delete little scenes , and if you take the disc out before it's full, it remembers where it was and records from there. Excellent............
This is a beautiful compact piece of equipment, ultra stylish, easy to use. Single handed operation, easy to follow instructions, perfect picture, remarkable value for money camcorder.
A very capable and usable camcorder, does just about everything and anything that you could need.Picture is excellent ,Both in Standard and H D modes ,It is light enough to carry around all day .Obviously Sony have come a long way with their Camera's and camcorders.I did find that 30 mins. on a disc was not quite enough for me ,but using double sided disc,s etc. could remedy this. Battery life was quite reasonable, Although carrying a spare is recomended. I quite enjoyed using it and it will probably live in the car with me in future Price for this model seems rather strange as it varies quite a lot more than usual.I would recomend searching all options before spending any money. But all in all a very nice item.B. Savage.(Sandmanblack)
this truly is a amazing piece of kit, bought it for £220 off ebay, its a hd(high definition) camcorder with a amazing amount of little features to boot, you can capture a still photo whilst recording a video, its simple to use your parents would be able to work it!! there is better on the market like the sr5 or the canon hf10 but they are 7-8 hundred pounds so if your asking is this worth 200 a quarter of their price then the answer is yes.i wuld recommend this product.
Great little camcorder, that uses 3" DVD or DVD-DL discs. Not as handy as the HDD versions, but if you're not into off-line editing it's probably good enough. Some of the Sony Blue-ray player will directly play these discs, which is really convenient. Good optical zoom, and the Sony optical image stabilizer works well. Available new for under £400 (as of June 2008) so be careful what you pay on ebay!!
