A good all-round phone, but nothing extremely special

Physically, the main number buttons and the navigation buttons are large and well-spaced so nobody should make any mistakes. The media buttons on the front can be locked via a slide switch on the side of the phone, to prevent you from accidentally playing music in your pocket. Main base of phone is rubber-coated for grip and upper segment is glossy and prone to scratches.
Using the phone, the interface, icons and animations looks slick (there are also several themes), and button assignments are always clear and consistent. Sub-menu items can be activated by typing a number representing their order, although the order is not shown on-screen. Composing and replying to text messages is very easy.
Camera is typical of most camera-phones - it works pretty well under normal light conditions in stationary environments. Camera lens is on the back of the main body of the phone, almost exactly behind the OK button, so careful not to cover the lens with your hand while holding the phone.
I'm not a music-on-the-go kind of person, so I cannot comment on the phone's sound quality.
Overall, the W980i is a very nice phone, but I'm still astonished at the price. At time of writing, RRP is supposed to be about £240 which is a joke. Carphone Warehouse sells them for £140. I got mine on eBay for £90. I would certainly not pay any more than that for this phone.
If you're looking for similar phones, the W595 is a slide-phone and has the same features and is a little cheaper, but has 2GB memory vs the 980's 8GB.
