Sony Ericsson P990i mobile phone

I wanted to buy a mobile phone that has potential for being altered, so I searched dozens of the latest models. Many had good features, but missed grabbing my attention. I found this one by accident, and i'm very glad i did.
As an upgrade to my old Nokia N-Gage, this was an ideal replacement, having many great features, and giving me every feature i need.
Here's a few of its features:
Call quality is excellent (tested on O2 & T-Mobile), with easily adjusting volume, & speaker-phone.
The touch-screen is huge, bright & clear, with easy to access options for everything, and enough features to keep anybody happy (i prefer a phone to do far much than just make calls & text).
The camera has an excellent quality auto-focus, and captures colours perfectly, even in low light, plus it has many other features reserved for stand-alone cameras. Video recording is also very good, with clarity & good audio.
The standard flip-numeric pad looks silly, but is easily removed allowing use of the full keypad underneath, and typing messages is so easy and responsive that way.
Battery life isn't too great at 3 hours talk-time, but that may be as mine is 2nd hand. Running extra software on the device doesn't seem to affect battery life at all, which is good.
Full multi tasking works perfectly on its SYMBIAN operating system. You can easily jump from any application to another in 2 seconds. Browse the Internet, with the camera running, and create txts, all at the same time.
It prefers the newer v3 UIQ S60 software (.SIS files), and can also run a huge amount of JAVA based applications and games too.
So far, everybody who has seen it has been impressed, it doesn't look at all strange or cheap. The case is quality all over, and the screen shows everything with amazing clarity. The touch screen responds very well too, but if you don't like that feature, the jog-dial and buttons all give access to the same features.
As this is a Symbian mobile, you are not stuck with just the standard applications in the phone. It comes with assorted office & system utilities (even a PDF reader), and full Internet browser (with JAVA capability). But as with all the SERIES 60 range, whatever you don't like, you just replace with other software. And of course you can completely change ever aspect of its display themes & audio.
Note that many users have found the phone can slow down a little after using several programs. I found this easy to stop by using the SWISS ARMY KNIFE UIQ utility to stop hidden background tasks - I thought that was a very handy tip ;)
For anybody who likes something much more than 'just' a phone, and enjoys a change to something quite special, I happily recommend this model of phone.
I'm very fussy with these things :) but would have happily bought this at full price if still in a shop.
The only 3 points I have hesitation on are:
The silly looking front numeric pad (detaches very easily). Some people may like it, but it looks far too bulky to me. Take it off and the phones a normal size again.
It cannot run much of the earlier Symbian software (SIS files), but i'm bypassing that problem - it's mainly down to the phones built-in 'security'.
A battery lasting 5 days would be nice, but that's just me fussing :)
A highly recommended mobile for anybody who likes technology. This is the only thing i've found that instantly replaced my old Nokia N-Gage for functionality and possibilities.
