Great camera, very user friendly. Lightweight and compact.
Also has movie feature with sound.
I also liked the fact it has a view finder which some digital camera do not.
Has easy to recharge battery which lasts longer than other batteries I have used.
I did however buy a better 'case' for it and a larger memory card.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to buy a digital camera.

Good points:
1. Great picture and sound for pictures and video
2. Useful functions e.g. landscape mode, for focus on things far away, beach mode, with gives the blue in the sea a rich colour, flash mode which really helps if you're in low light and you want a good picture.
3. Easy to use

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago. What really attracted me to it was that is was so cheap- with 7.2MP, 3x optical zoom, and it's a sony camera, enough said? (at this time the camera was £125) Though after buying it, I wondered whether it really was a good camera, whether it was durable or just broke aart within weeks, whether the battery would only last for an hour and then you'd have to charge it for five times that amount of time. Well, yes you do have to charge it for a good 6-7 hours, but that seems like a second compared to the duration it can last. I charged my camera about 2 weeks before I went on holiday. I did, I admit, turn it on frequently before that, as I wanted to check out the features. On holiday (as a keen photographer) I took 100+ photos (as I bought a 1GB memory card, internal memory only holds 16 photos) and 16+ videos (which I thought that £125 for a photo and video camera was very kind) The sound and image quality of the videos and the image quality of, well the images was amazing, and you could really appreciate that if you transferred the pictures from your camera to the computer. Which was easy to do.
The functions of the camera are very easy to work out. Just turn the knob and all of a sudden, from taking a picture you're taking a video. No long loading time for the change in function.
No long loading time when you're turning the camera on/off.
Overall? Best camera I've purchased yet. Great value for money, though I'd advise you to buy 2+ 1GB memory cards as the internal memory sucks.

I needed a camera as i was going on holiday and fedup taking pictures with a phone. I spend toms time looking at different makes and models and kept coming back to the DSC-W55, its good quality at 7.2mpixels and neat and compact. It looked great in silver when i initially seen it but it appeared that I could only get it in a different colour from ebay. I opted for black which looks amazing next the chrome parts, many people have already commented on how good it looks. You can get the silver one cheaper in most places but as ebay was the only place i could get it in black I didnt mind paying a little bit more. All in all i really like the camera, its very easy to use for an amateur photographer like myself, the quality is superb, even the video clips are decent. It looks great especially in the other colours and is very reasonably priced.

Good quality easy to use small camera.
I liked the possibility to have a viewfinder in addition to the screen which also works with the zoom function so that you check the actual image size.
Memory cards are easy to find and a 2mb card gives over 500 shots on the highest resolution.
I honestly cannot say that I compared to others as there are so many, but I used another older Sony camera before and found it to be excellent and reliable.

Sony have an excellent name and reputation and from some basic research that I carried out, this camera appeared to have the features I was looking for.
Well constructed, robust yet very light and extremely easy to use. May be simply set on "click and go" or with some practice produce skilful effects.
It was actually a gift for my girlfriend.
The price was extremely competitive. The only downside was it was manufactured for the US market so I had to get a separate charger (only £11) but I was aware of this when buying it. I also found the charger on e-bay!
A great buy and there are plenty of optional extras that may be added.

This camera is ideal for beginners like me, it is so simple and straight forward to use, I love the way the mode dial lights up on the screen when your changing from still pictures to movie, or choosing one of the scene modes, as it makes it so much easier to see what your doing. The size of the camera is also another thing I like as it is small enough to slip into your pocket without being obtrusive, I have had a few cameras over the years and I have to say this is definately the best, the screen is a good size but this camera still has a view finder which I think is essential, especially when the sun is very bright. The handbook is very simple to follow, so far I haven't had any problems, there are some modes I haven't tried yet. Another reason for buying this camera ... It works with my iMac in movie mode, which many cameras do not.

I recently bought the same camera for my parents for christmas and they are always saying how good it is. As i recently had a baby, myself and my husband decided to purhase one.The best camera i have ever bought and i would recommend it to anyone it's such a easy and reliable camera to use.One of the best cameras on the market.

I brought this as an upgrade to my samsung camera. I wasn't that impressed to be honest. Its just to fiddly for my liking. Far to many gizmo's that just aren't needed. The lithium battery is good but you have to use a genuine sony memory card which is more expense. I'm still using my samsung and this camera is back in its box.

Dinky little camera, great size for your pocket or bag. Takes great photos when you've finally figured out all the setting which there seem to be a lot of. Large internal memory. Overall very pleased I chose this model.

fab camera!I brought it as a gift for my mum. It's an upgrade on the one I've got and I love that one. I take lots of pics of horses jumping and it's fab. the only trouble I have is it's slow to focus in low light, maybe me not reading the instructions! Mum's camera is great, easy to download, easy to undrstand settings and easy to use, lightweight and durable, fits into pocket!! good memory with 1gb card. Love it and would buy over and over.

malfunctioning cameraThis camera worked well for about 2 years. It has developed a fault on the lens which causes it to turn on say access then asks you to turn it on and off again. This goes on and on making it impossible to take photos then in the end the lens gets stuck out and you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle. I would NOT reccommend this camera.
