I bought the Sony cyber-shot dsc-w50 camera on behalf of my mother, she's almost 60 with no knowledge of anything digital. I have the W30 myself and I love it. Both are very easy to use, she soon picked up alot of what the camera can do, the picture quality is great and for some one who is very camera happy It's going to save her a fortune in wasted pictures as she can check out there and then if she's cut someones head off etc etc. Great buy very reasonably priced and its a sony

Sony cameras score highly for ease of use and the DSC W50 is no exception. In fact if you use this camera in automatic (default) mode then there is nothing you need to do apart from load the battery, compose your photos and press the shutter button. When you do have to dip into the menu system I find the Sony menus very easy to come to terms with. You will find all the key controls such as zoom, flash and macro at your fingertips on the back of the camera.

In many ways this camera is just about as standard as you will find for a small digital camera. It has a typical rectangular shape with a shiny silver finish. Although there is nothing to really differentiate this camera from the hordes of other cameras available it has a simple, clean design nonetheless.

It will fit into just about any pocket with dimensions of 88.9 x 57.1 x 22.9mm. It weighs in at 127g.

A lithium ion battery (NP-BG1) is used to supply power to the camera. Sony supplies both a battery and charger with the DSC W50. Sony estimates you should be able to take around 300 shots before the battery needs to be recharged.

The camera comes with 32mb of storage built into it. Therefore a memory card is NOT supplied with the camera as standard. Although Sony are more generous than most with the amount of memory they build into a camera I was only able to take 15 photos before the memory was full. Therefore you will almost certainly need to buy a memory card to go with the camera. It is compatible with Memory Stick Duo cards. It is very important to ensure the memory stick you buy have Duo in its name as standard memory sticks are too large for this camera. Overall I like the Sony DSC W50. It takes good photos, is easy to use and is small enough to slip into a pocket. It is one of only a small number of pocket sized digital cameras to offer a viewfinder and it is also very competitively priced.

  Digital Camera - excellent purchase

This purchase has definitely been the best purchase I have made from Ebay.

I did a lot of homework to find the camera that I wanted to buy. I even visited one of the Sony shops to gain more information about the product.

I 'watched'several auctions to see what the general price seemed to be. I bid on a couple of very good second hand cameras (same model) but was outbid each time.

I decided to buy a brand new camera as the price was not much more than the second hand cameras were being bought for.

The site I bought from in America even included a 1gb memory card and the price was fantastic value. Delivery was made within two days as agreed.

The camera is very easy to use. It came with all the usual guides and has been worth every penny.

I did not really compare with other brands as I particularly wanted a Sony camera to easily download pictures onto my Sony laptop.

I have given this an excellent rating as it has ticked all the boxes:

1)Ease of use
2)Fantastic value for money when bought on Ebay (much more expensive in Sony shop and did not include the 1Gb memory card in the price)
3)Great design and looks

I bought this camera as it had an eye piece as well as the screen, I found when its too sunny to see the screen, it is very handy to have the eye piece.
Also this camera takes excellent picture.
I also have a panasonic which takes very good pictures, but no eye piece.
Very pleased with both items.

I like the Sony Cyber-shot. It is everything I needed in a camera, after buying two other camera's previous to this one, which didn't do everything I wanted .. i wasted money, when I should have paid a bit more and got the one i wanted in the first place.

. It takes a quick, good quality picture.
. It saves to memory card quickly.
. It's got an auto/manual flash
. It has both view finder and lcd screen.

All round good quality, value for money camera.

satisfied with the purchase, i was sent a notification about my purchase and the progress (app. date of delivery etc) the quality of the product is excellent, exactly was was promised on eBay. the only thing that i'd add to the purchase - the original camera case. had to buy it separately!
overall rating: good.

I wanted a small compact digital camera that was easy to use, and also versatile to enable me to take close up shots. The Sony Cyber-shot ticked all the boxes. I tried several different camera's out on the high street before buying, this was the most comfortable to hold and all the controls were within easy reach. Once I reached this decision I then shopped around for the best price, and was sucessful to get the model I wanted on ebay. I have used the camera for over a month now and am extremely pleased with it. One question I always ask myself is would I buy it again with hinesight, and the answer is yes.

We needed a new digital camera to take on our family holiday over Easter. Reasonable quality pictures, a compact camera and ease of use were required. A positive feature that other similar models do not have is that it has a view finder as well as the 2,5 inch LCD screen. Good for in the sun. It was sold with 2GB of memory and it is a Sony, so it appears to be quality well organised product with plenty of capacity. The pictures taken so far look very good but are fairly big files so sending by email is problomatic. Compression and therefore loss of quality has to be accepted, if this is to be carried out. The Cyber Shot software is good for viewing pictures but I have not yet found whether I can delete pictures from Cyber Shot and this may have to be done using Explorer.

Compactness and solidity, Excellent results as regards picture definition and clarity. I bought a second camera (used) as a replacement for one which had been stolen. Surely, testimony to a great product.

this is the first ever digital camera that i have bought However, on reading reviews on this model and from a parents personal experience, decided to go for it.
I have to agree that the camera itself is compact, light and VERY easy to use - even for someone without any experience like me. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the quality of photos is excellent. I've no complaints and would recommend this to anyone specially parents buying a first camera for there kids.
