Upgraded from Minolta to Sony Digital Camera

My Minolta developed a fault, therefor I desided to upgrade my digital camera.
As most people I was on a budget, this mid market model out classed the fuji 5600 and the Kodak 6 series. The main reason was the anti shake mechanism the others had none, with reviews pointing this out. The quality of my Minolta Z1 was great, with Minolta being swallowed up by Sony this led me to look at Sony. The read up's on the Sony revieled that the H2 features, lens, quality etc were the same as the more expensive H5 except it was 6 mega pix and a 2inch screen instead of 7 mega pix and 21/2inch screen respective,and of course cheaper. The quality of build is fantastic and with the Carl Zeiss lens and 12 times optical zoom the pictures are excelent. Most of the pro photographer features like F settings ISO etc are set at best in the AUTO setting and as a point and shot chap, I am amazed how good it all works out. With artheritis in the hands the chunkyness is ideal to hold, alter features and take photo's without to much trouble. I tried the smaller compact camers and they were to fiddly. With the recent snow, I went outside 6 in the morning pitch dark and took some amzing pictures with the flash, everything auto, point and snap, you can even see the snow falling. Summing up Im delited with my purchase, look around for deals, I managed to get a 2gig memery stick with my purchase and the package was cheaper than some outlets were selling just the camera for. Cant waite for the summer to come and go away in my touring caravan where I get to do most of my photography, this year I know with the new Sony H2 my pictures will outdo anything I've done before. Superior Sony Cyber-shot

Excellent dig. camera with a 12X OPTICAl zoom and a flash which will operate at 16 yes 16m. Love this camera and would strongly recommend it to anyone interested sports, the out doors or just snapping the family. A smooth shake free mechanism lifts it out of the pack. Sony quality is evident.

A great camera especially for taking photos of stage shows without a flash. Excellent zoom facility. Steady shot very good if, like me, you tend to wobble your shots. Beautiful clean shots and particularly good at long distance. Easy to hold and you feel you are using areal camera not a toy.

Its a camera i wanted ,no dislike. Has good flash ,menu display comarnd are good , they tell you want seting you need for what shoot you going to take comes .when you print the picture there come out clear and sharp .

LOOKING FOR A DIGITAL CAMERA
Seeing such a huge market for digital cameras I decided straight away to choose from 3-4 camera manufacture's that I have used and bought from before, these where Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Canon.
I set myself a budget which was £200 for a digital camera with at least 5m pixel (dots that make up the picture) and then went down to visit my local High Street.
Jessops was my first port of call where I looked at the many different types of digital camera ranging from the small compact to the professional Nikon digital SLR which may I say was costly, but desirable for an old 35mm photographer like myself. The next shop was Currys who had some good offers, but by now I was becoming rather confused with all the extra features packed into these little machines, such as video recording with sound (loved that feature) and all the different types of settings for taking that extra special picture i.e modes for Portrait,Landscape,Sport, plus the ability of storing hundreds of pictures on one tiny memory stick (amazing).
It was not until the following week whilst browsing reviews on the internet that I fell in love with the Sony cyber-shot range, with its slick designs and competitve prices I decided to go for the Sony Cyber-shot H series.
SONY CYBER-SHOT H SERIES
At present the Sony H series has 5 models out. They are DSC-H1 (earliest model) DSC-H2,DSC-H5,DSC-H7 and the latest model is the DSC-H9. As you would expect each later model has been slightly revised and a marked improvement for instance the H1 has 5.1 M pixel and the H9 has 10m pixel.
Being that my buget was £200, the Sony DSC-H2 was my final choice.

I bought my camera on Ebay secondhand below my £200 budget and luckly for me the camera was in a new condition. If you ever consider buying a secondhand digital camera be cautious and make sure that the Ebayer has no negative feedback.
My first impressions on the Sony DSC-H2 was that it was much more compact and lighter than I first thought, it also comes with a massive 123 page manual which is a little daunting at first, but within a few hours I was snapping away with a big smile on my face.
On the H2 camera you've got the choice to use either the 2"inch LCD screen or a digital viewfinder when taking your pictures. One of the strongest points about this camera is the powerful 12 x opitical zoom lens plus a further 4 x digital zoom for a seriously close up image, it has also manual exposure, aperture,macro and shutter speed opitions which all count when taking a great portrait photograph.
SUMMARY
If you're looking for a great digital camera that takes superb photographs and doesn't need to be too compact then look no further,the Sony DSC-H2 digital camera is an excellent choice. Outstanding features such as the powerful zoom and the ability to produce razor sharp images through the many exposure settings allows you to become far more creative when taking pictures. Being that the camera has now been around for just over a year means you're more than likely to buy it at a heavily discounted price in the shops (try using www.kelkoo.co.uk to compare prices too) but if you are going to buy secondhand like myself remember a digital camera is very fragile and can easily be damaged, so be careful.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Sony cyber-shot DSC-H2 digital camera. It's truly great fun and an all round winner in every field Enjoy 10/10.

Good value for money - a first class cameraReview created: 17/11/08

) I’ve had this now for about 2 years, I bought it because I needed to take several photos at about 3 second intervals for a job I was doing. My earlier camera failed to do this and after the first shot just sat and thought about preparing itself for the next shot, the Sony just gets on with it.
My main subjects are Ebay items and nature shots. It can be used on fully automatic, which gives more than acceptable shots or with aperture or shutter priority, or programmed or manual mode. There are also 6 pre-programmed modes, a 5 burst shot mode (for action shots and taking several of the same object) and a video capability. If all these sound daunting, don’t worry; use automatic mode or a pre-set that suits you or the scene best.
The buttons are all pretty obvious and the shutter button is positioned in a very conveniently. another reason I bought it was because it uses AA batteries rather than a one-off type in many cameras that are expensive. Battery life with rechargeable batteries (get quality ones – Sony are very good) is excellent. However ordinary AA batteries (even the one with the bunny advertising them) are not really up to the job.
Photos can be taken at varying resolutions, the bigger they are, the fewer you get on the memory card, but I used to shoot at 3mp and took up to 90 a day without running into difficulties. (The max is 6mp.)
The video is not going to replace a top of the line dedicated video camera but is really good for what it is. I have a JVC camcorder (OK it’s old and runs digital tapes) but the Sony gives a far, far better picture.
The pictures themselves: The general colour rendering is very good with a slight tendency to over-expose a subject – if you are really bothered, you can set the camera to compensate for this. Close ups are remarkably good but with a very slight tendency to be pick up on red. Neither of these should put you off.
Low light photography is far better than a 35mm camera and the picture does not turn grainy until there is virtually no light. The anti-shake “Sure-Shot” button is miraculous – I have taken reasonable hand-held photos at an exposure of ¼sec. Using flash can be your choice or automatic or slow synch. It’s well adjusted to the camera and there’s no problem with focussing in pitch blackness.
The telephoto Zoom is incredible – the hairs on a gnat’s whiskers at 100 yards or Aldrin’s footprints on the moon(!) - but you’ll need the Sony Sure-Shot button if the light is less than good.
One thing that was a little annoying was some purple fringing on telephoto shots. This only occurs when an object is of a greatly different brightness (or darkness) to its background. However, the number of times that this has occurred has been minimal and is not uncommon in cameras.
The photos are only put out in .jpg form but, for what I want, that is not a problem. I may spend sometime later manipulating the nature shots with a computer program but this is “the final touch.” You shouldn’t really need to do this for everyday photography.
Have I had the desire to go out and buy something with more bells and whistles? No, it would confuse me and I doubt it would do its job any better.
Oh, don’t bother with one of those cases that are the shape of the camera, few fit and they’re a nuisance but do get a lens hood (usually supplied) and place a clear filter on it to protect the lens from dirt.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes.
