I've had my DSC-P200 for 2 1/2 years and overall it's superb. Picture quality is excellent and it's easy to use. Movies are good but only if you set the resolution to "FINE"...otherwise they are jerky on replay.
Battery life is superb. How do they do that? My friend has a Samsung which consumes a set of Duracell AA in 20 minutes....the tiny Li-iron battery in the Sony gives up to 2 hours of shooting/viewing etc, enough to last a whole 2 week holiday.
The only downside is that you can't crop your pictures using the camera display. You have to download them to your PC and then do it on that. Later Sony's have this facility and it's really useful.

  My super sony cybershot camera
Review created: 06/08/08

I decided to buy this camera after seeing my daughters photographs taken from one she bought on Ebay. The camera takes beautiful clear images, on several different sizes 7 m-pixels to email size. The camera had everything one needs to take pictures under all circumstances. This camera is very easy to use and the instructions are clear and simple to understand for even a novice at digital photography (me) It is light weight and a lovely looking camera, ideal for a handbag so you can take it everywhere with you without it being heavy or bulky. It also charges up from a mains adapter so no worries about having to carry spare batteries on holiday. Also as well as lcd screen there is a view finder which is handy in bright sunlight as it is sometimes difficult to see the screen in these circumstances. My daughter has had hers for several years now and no problems with it at all and she takes hundreds of photos. There is nothing I dislike about the camera and I am really happy with it and recommend it as a good buy.

This camera was a revelation when launched ( I believe in 2005 )

Some very good features -
- Auto
- Programmed auto
- Manual Focus
- Well defined presets with even a MACRO mode.
- Easy to use intuitive Interface
- crystal clear LCD
- Decent flash, slow-synchro as well
- a view finder ? :)
- sleek design - which fits very well even in large hands like mine
- sturdy build

A few things Sony needs to focus on:
- bad burst shot
- If only the actual sensor worked as good as the LCD. All day photographs turn out typically over-exposed
- battery charges in the unit. additional charger at extra cost
- uses old model bigger version of the memory stick
- as always, sony's custom USB cable, forces you to carry your entire kit while travelling.

Over all, a good camera for what it costs today ( I paid quite a sum back when it was launched ). and very handy for just-clicking audience.
However, if money is not an issue, go for a Nikon P&S or perhaps even a Canon.

I like it's compact ,tactile, quality feel, it also produces quality shots with a richness of colour that I just haven't found in other compact cameras. Also a host of advanced features for the more technical out there and a carl zise lense!!!!.( looking at the charge lead access cover, suggests it will require a little care as its small and delicate!! ) video is good too, although only 7mins worth at one time, I used my brothers for a weekend and was totally sold, This is a great camera 'period',,,( myne cost me £80 brand new..:-),x

Fantastic little camera, sadly somehow mine got dust behind the lens resulting in small fuzzy blobs in the pictures. Sony UK wanted £114 to fix so I decided to replace it with a Canon IXUS70, what a mistake, it's not a patch on my Sony so I'll be looking to pick up another P200 on EBay !

I had one at work, changed jobs and decided to get one to replace it. Not the biggest screen on the back but if I want a big screen I'll watch TV. Lots of features in a compact camera. Excellent! Go get one...

Review created: 07/04/08

I recently purchased a Sony Cyber-Shot from Ebay. It is a cracking little camera. I wanted something small to fit into my handbag and it is perfect. It has a brilliant zoom facility and the pictures are clear and great colour. I would highly recommend it.

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Iphone and Ipod touch without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free ps3 xbox 360 or wii

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free ps3 xbox 360 or wii

Here the link again:- http://consoles.freebiejeebies.co.uk/11196

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free ps3 xbox 360 or wii in no time.

Thank you.

Review created: 10/02/08

My girlfriend fell into the sea whilst in Sweden. The DSC-P200 unfortunately didn't cope as well as my girlfriend!!! Apart from that, it was a much liked camera and one that needed to be brought again. Am very happy with this item and now have a peaceful life again; for a while.

  SONY DSC-P200 second purchase
Review created: 08/01/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Many years ago my father had a pre- war Zeiss ICON 35mm camera amongst others and this remained his favourite out of four. Sadly he accidentally dropped this and the rangefinder failed so for some time it was out of use . He later found the same camera was being made by a Russian company that had overrun the factory in the last stages of the war so he simply took out the zeiss lens from his old camera and clicked it into the new body. The zeiss lens produced incredible contrasty pictures and the hybrid camera again remained his favourite
for many years.

Before going into the electrical wholesale trade I was a retail manager for many years in a photo / hifi shop and handled literally hundreds , perhaps thousands , of cameras. I remained personally impressed by anything having a Carl Zeiss lens so naturally looked for a decent digital camera with the same fitted. Sadly my first purchase ( I am married you see so , so have to watch the finances ) was a cheaper camera of only 2.1 megapixels and I used this for some three years before giving it to the wife. By then the Sony cameras where being reviewed and I bought myself a DSC-P200 and have been highly delighted with the same , picture quality is superb and I use it mainly on 5 megapixel setting , occasionally I will click the button onto 7.1 if I know I have a distance shot that I will have to crop and enlarge the result. As for macro function and light levels I have never found the camera a problem , although obviously I a small tripod is essential for night shooting using the available candle or moonlight modes. Finally of course the camera can be set manually if deemed necessary and I have taken one photo of a ship at night using this technique. I have no doubt a later digital SLR would give slightly better results for the purist but these are like bricks ( my son is a web designer and carries one everywhere and my brother has a gorgeous Sony model with a Zeiss lens that he carts off to the U.S.A. every year and photographs railways and scenery to great effect ). Anyone who uses the great institution of E. Bay would be delighted with this little camera which is brilliant , lightweight and not over complicated to use. As the wife goes on a seperate holiday from myself once a year ( I go walking and she goes talking with five sisters that accompany her )I have now bought a second camera of the same type and of course she is also delighted. My advice to anyone buying a digital camera is look at the photos before buying , buy a good brand with a good lens , Zeiss , Schneider etc.and get the technology in the body and the quality in the lens that after all "sees" and produces the picture. Obviously avoid anything with a dent or otherwise evidence of being dropped , and remember you are going to carry around with you so get a good quality case to go with it.

So good its annoying! Beats modern camera's by a mile.
Review created: 10/12/07(updated 27/05/08)
by:

I own a 3 year old P200 which I got about 6 months ago off ebay after seeing a friends example.
Its great, however compared to modern competition it has only a small 2 inch screen, no optical stabilisation, no wide angle lens, and its a little bit bigger as well.

So I decided to replace it. With a fuji F40fd. Oh dear, nowhere near as good, purple fringing, cold colours, P200 much better.

I then tried a panasonic Fx07. Noisier, when compared the P200 results are clearly sharper too.

Canon ixus 60 - softer, poorer results.

A mates pentax optio - less natural colours, much poorer inside.

Panasonic FX33 - Now thats much newer, 3rd generation model. But once again the P200 can teach it a thing or two when it comes to image quality.

So why are all these new camera's failing to match it. Firstly the carl zeiss lens is brilliant. Then there's the 1/1.8 inch sensor. Its bigger than panasonics 1/2.5 inch one and that means the dynamic range is better. What that means is that for high contrast shots everything is well exposed. With the panasonics part of the images are over exposed, and part of the images are under exposed.

Then there's all the manual settings over apeture, shutter speed, focusing type etc. Even on auto the camera's got hundreds of options to pick from and it usually picks well.

If it had optical image stabilisation it would be awesome. As it is its very good and beats anything I try and replace it with! Perhaps I should just accept its flaws (all of which are due to the fact its 3 years old technology) and keep it.

What a camera!

Don't hesitate to buy this if you want a superfluous point and shoot. Believe me, everyone is impressed with the quality of photos from this camera, and i only ever used the 5mp setting. Every time i look back at the photos i took with it,i feel warm and fuzzy at the quality of the pics.
Sadlly, I recently lost mine, and replaced it with the latest canon Ixus. Now i REALLY miss my sony p200 which is why i'm looking for a cheap one on ebay! The only downside is that you can't get a decent underwater housing for it, which i need when i go scuba diving.

This camera is very compact and fits in your pocket but delivers brilliant pictures everytime. The zoom is ok but the major selling point for me was the image quality. The fireworks setting has been used on a number of occasions to great effect. The battery is reliable and with a charged spare you can guarantee to keep taking as many photos as you wish for as long as you wish.
For its convenient size it is superb and reliable. It has done a number of holidays and never let us down on performance or quality. Colours come through accurately .
I'd recommend to anyone who does not want to carry a heavy camera but expects high quality results. BUT remember that the zoom is a little limited and judge whether that suits your kind of photography before buying.

This camera is great for ALL users. Be you a rank amateur or a pro then you will be at home with this cracking little beast. It has great ease of use and is equally as good to just use to point and shoot or you can manually change shutter speed, choose flash setting and I.S.O etc. The user interface is idiot proof and it takes amazing photos giving both vivid detail and amazing colour.
If, like me, you get into a lather about new technology and need to ask your nephews or nieces for help then this is the camera for you BUT you have also got a camera that a real teckie can use as well and you need not be ashamed in ANY gadget fashion parade if you have this beastie in your pocket.
The battery supplied seems to last forever and only takes 3 hours to charge up again and the camera has inbuilt memory for times when you have no more memory available on your memory stick/card ( emergency really, given the large sized memory media available nowadays) . Personally I use the camera at it’s highest 7.2 mega pixel quality and have a 1 meg memory card. You can also use the camera for movies with sound that are also very high quality and easy to put onto your computer or even television so it's a VERY adaptable camera that can do so much. It is pictbridge compatible so that means you can plug it directly into a compatible printer without the need of a P.C at all.
It also pleases aesthetically (it looks and feels good). It fits into your pocket nicely and every little switch, knob or control has a quality feel to it even though it's a small camera and quite light in weight. The LCD display is large and the quality so good that you can preview your photo immediately.
All in all this camera is easy to use, takes great pictures at high pixel size and small and it is something that you would feel is a great benefit to have on you from just day trips to weddings this camera fits the bill. There are a range of accessories as well from docking stations to wide angle lenses to marine packs to let you take photos underwater.
A very adaptable and versatile camera that I highly recommend to ANYONE interested in photography. You will NOT be disappointed with this camera
