Pros' & Con's of the Sony CDX-CA600X

The Sony CDX-CA600X CD Player is on a par with many of its competitors in the field of in-car entertainment. Price and performance wise there is little to choose between comparative Sony, Philips and Blaupunkt models. A CD Changer can be readily added without too much trouble but this is a feature of similar models so is nothing new really.
However like many Sony radios it has a known problem with the auto-tuning system which has a regular failure rate. Here is where it gets expensive. A Sony authorised repair agent will quote a figure far in excess of the items original value to replace this faulty tuner unit. If one thought to replace it by buying the ready made up transistor board for this item forget it as it costs over double the tuner repair, plus VAT.
In conclusion it is good while it works but if it goes faulty sling it as the exhorbitant cost of parts and repair far outweighs the value of a new replacement.
This unrealistic pricing of spare parts by Sony is unfortunately indicative of the attitude of many manufacturers who seem determined to close the repair market with a view to selling new items only.
