A most excellent camera, it may weight slightly more than the Canon but you don't carry it 'posed' all day. The instructions are straight forward but you must read them to discover the cameras superb systems.

If, like me, you are a total novice in photography, particularly involving DSLR's, then this is the camera for you. The Sony Alpha 200K is simply superb. I am sure any photographic officianado would tell me otherwise, or list numerous other cameras that are better at one thing or another. But, for a beginner, simplicity, ease of use, and reliability are paramount, and this camera ticks all those boxes.
I am constantly impressed by the quality and range of photo's I can take with this camera. Some say it is a little heavy, but for me, that translates into build quality. I have to admit I am something of a Sony lover, having never yet been let down by any of their products. However, I could also say that about some other manufacturers, but they dont make a DSLR like this!
I decided to buy it because of the reviews I had seen in the media, and on camera web sites. Ultimately price was a major factor, and I didnt know how well I would take to my first DSLR. I had been contented with a Canon sure shot, and this was a neat little camera, but from the first picture I took with the A200K, I was hooked.
If I knew then what I knew now, I would have plummed for the A350K or even better, but I am no professional. However, the best testiment I can give for this camera is that because of its excellence, I now intend to take up a photography course in my spare time. Then I think I will look at an A700 or even 900!
So, if you are new to DSLR's, buy this.

OK there's Nikon, Canon, Pentax.. but Sony SLR. Believe it this is a great entry SLR. It's easy to use but has some of the traditional DSLR controls, manual overide etc. Lens availability is somewhat restricted if you are on a budget, but for under £200 you can add the Sony/Minolta fit Sigma 28-300, you'll never have to change the lense with that one. Feels great in the hand too.

I love this camera ,it takes fantastic picture it also has RAW facility ,it is quite simple to use once you find your way around it.obviously there are more superior cameras on the market but for an ametaur it has more than required for taking fantastic pictures.

This was an upgrade from a cheap camera. The Alpha 200 is super quick focusing and gives great results to even the most basic user.
Easy to learn menus, easy set up and very user friendly. I'll need to buy a more powerful lens than the standard 18-70mm, but, i expected that anyway.
A highly recommended purchase. Very happy.

Having used SLR film cameras, i found it easy to convert to the A200.
The A200 is simple to use & takes superb pictures, zoom in on macro takes brilliant photos.
I found the manual setting quite easy to use.

The design allows for a comfort fit, and the easibility of the menu's on the camera allows for easy access whilst using the camera. the variety of lenses for the camera is an added bonus as well as using older minolta lenses also.

Reasonable entry cameraTaken good pictures with it and the battery does last quite long which is always a bonus, however I've started to have problems with the lens and flash and Sony support is not very helpful in such matters.

Sony Alpha A 200 digital SLRA great camera for beginners or more advanced photographers - easy to use in fully automatic mode for the complete novice yet with all the functions a more advanced user would demand. The battery is officially deemed to last 750 photos, but I have achieved nearly 900 without the use of flash. Sony lenses are easily available, but you can also use any of the Minolta AF fit lesnes from Tamron, Sigma and others giving you as large a choice of lenses as you are likely to require.

Great beginningI wanted to buy a DSLR camera for a very long time, but was limited because of financial matters. I purchased the SOny A200 after long consideration between a Nikon and a Canon, I think i made a great choice, because the photo's come out fabulously without me trying anything. First DSLRPerfect DSLR for my first one. Easy to use. Nice pictures and very good instruction book. Plenty of easy to use settings. I chose this item because of very good online reviews. Only downside so far is it is quite noisy!
