Album Notes Personnel includes: Frank Sinatra (vocals); Nelson Riddle (conductor).Recorded on October 17, 1955 and on January 9-17, 1956. Includes liner notes by Pete Welding. All tracks have been digitally remastered using 20-bit technology. When Sinatra teams up with conductor/arranger Nelson Riddle, you know the results are bound to swing, and swinging is what this brash, jazzy and very upbeat album is all about. Though the Chairman has staked his claim as the preeminent saloon singer, telling tale after tragic tale of love gone awry, this album represents the sunny side of Sinatra. He is bold and energetic here. His undeniably authoritative readings of songs like "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" MAKE them into standards, no matter who has sung them before.Riddle's orchestrations are subtle but powerful, and SWINGIN' LOVERS finds Sinatra's voice bouncing off punchy horn stabs and floating gently along sweet rivers of woodwinds. One of the most impressive aspects of Sinatra's talent is his control over the tone and shape of his voice. His singing is expansive and fluid-sounding, but it's plain that every atom of that sound is crafted with the utmost precision. Sinatra's depth of musical understanding makes his delivery of even light-hearted songs like "Anything Goes" and "Makin' Whoopee" cut as deeply as his most romantic ballad. Reviews an album of a brilliant singer singing brilliant songs. I've overlooked this as just music for my mum's generation, until I listened to it. Report this review Growing up in the 1950's and 60's, Frank Sinatra was an old square and of very little interest to a teenage fan of Top Of The Pops. But tastes develop as one matures and I recall once reading that Songs For Swingin' Lovers was a highly memorable album, recorded at Frank's peak and that Nelson Riddle excelled with the backing arrangements. I finally purchased this album and everything I had read and heard is true. OK, his later hits are not there, but Frank's phrasing and vocal touches are as sublime as a vocalist can get. Nelson Riddle provides the perfect backing and it is difficult to imagine that this 'swing' album will ever be bettered. Robbie Williams and others have had a game stab at such swing albums, and done rather well. But if you want the consumate professionalism that only the combination of Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle can supply - this is probably the only 'swing' album you will ever need. Fifty years after being recorded it still sounds absolutely fantastic. It has become a firm favourite of mine - and anyone of taste who wants to experience the ultimate swing album will not be disappointed by Songs For Swingin' Lovers. Its now nearly worn through and I am reluctant to play it, scratches and all!! But its a classic, Sinatra at his scintillating best and one of the great American big Swing bands. For my generation a must. For younger generations, listen to songs with proper words, you might get to like it. Review ID: 10000000005471867 Was this review helpful? I didnt think this was loud or razzamatazzy enough. I would have liked more really big belting sounds - but the songs were familiar and his voice was still fantastic.
