Smallville - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2003)

Well what can I say apart from WOW! This is one amazing series packed with action and special effects. Nobody in their right minds would not buy this brilliant DVD. In this series we see the man of steel without his trademark red underwear but a teenager with raging hormones. Clark Kent is only just discovering his new mysterious and amazing powers aswell as coping with the everyday hardships of High School. Its not just his powers that he is coping with but a love for a certain girl called Lana Lang. A secret love that noone really knows about. In this first season Clark discovers his power of invulnerability and X-ray vision. One great episode is where X-Mens Shawn Ashmore (Ice-Man) makes an appearance in the episode Leech where Clark tries to save Eric from killing himself and in the process getting struck by lightning this in turn with the help of some meteor rock (Krptonite) Clark's powers are transferred to Eric who uses them for his own good. Which is basically bad! But Clark eventually gains his powers back and pulls through as he always does.

The venerable Superman mythos gets a 21st-century updating in the imaginative and engaging TV series Smallville. The premise of the show--Superman as a teenager--takes up just a few pages in Superman's very first comic-book appearance (in Action Comics back in 1938), but producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar flesh out that period by portraying young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) not as the noble Superman-in-waiting, but as an average teen with some not-so-ordinary supernatural powers, including incredible strength and heat vision (Clark hasn't lifted up, up, and away as of yet). Clark's desire to fit in with his peers and make sense of his extraordinary abilities grounds him in very realistic and identifiable terms for the series' primarily under-25 audience, as does his appealing and tentative romance with Kristen Kreuk as Clark's dreamgirl Lana Lang.

But Smallville also strikes gold when it takes a turn towards more comic-book territory, as evidenced by the parade of shape-shifting killers and other outlandish antagonists (many generated, in one of the series' most ingenious notions, by the same devastating meteor shower that brought the infant Clark to Earth) that Clark must harness his powers to face and defeat. Gough and Millar, along with their capable cast (which includes Michael Rosenbaum as a young and already bald-pated Lex Luthor, and Annette O'Toole and John Schneider as the Kents) manage to pull off the precarious high-wire act of combining science fiction with coming-of-age drama to create this highly watchable programme.

I decided to buy this DVD as I managed to catch a few of them on TV but missed some every now and then. I got really into it finding out what it was like for the young Clarke Kent growing up. I think the idea is a good one and the story lines every week are superb. I would recomend this to any comic book fan or people who like their superheroes you won't be disapointed as I was all those yers ago with the new adventures of superman.

Came quickly and was condition was new as described. I was delighted with my purchase. I will certainly use ebay more.

In this season we get a look at clark as he is starting to develop into the hero he is in the films and comic books, in this season he finds out he is nearly indistructable, and has ex-ray vision. We also get to meet Lex Luthor and all the other characters for the first time, i think it is really interesting to see how all the other characters react to Lex Luthor. If you have never watched Smallville I recomend that you do, belive me you'll love it. 10/10 Big thumbs up!!!

I own this series on dvd, and have watched it from the first episdoe to the last, it is a great series to watch, the music, cast and story lines are fantastic. it is definatley worth buying, trust me.

I first watched this on tv quite a while ago and that was it....i was 100% hooked and i love clark his life and his family....this series is one that you wont want to stop watching....trust me ;0) x

Adds a welcome twist to the Superman story done in a very watchable format, about a teenager finding he has all these powers as well as trying to cope with everything that comes with being a teenager.

The original Lana lang in the films plays his mother, and he has Lex Luther as a best friend.

It is a must see.

Smallville is about the early years of Superman/ Clark Kent as a teenager. I love the TV programme and although it's often repeated, it is during the day when I am out at work. I only got into Smallville halfway through the 3rd season, therefore with having the DVD, I can sit down and watch the episodes in order and follow the whole story.

Definately a must for all Superman/ Smallville fans, but also for anyone who is fond of American teenshows where something weird and wonderful happens each week.

This is an excellent boxset a great take on superman any one who loves si-fi and superman will love this series.

I never thought i would be able to get into Smallville - i'm in my thirties and to me nobody could play Superman like Christopher Reeve!

How wrong i was - i love Smallville and i love Tom Welling as the young, fresh-faced Clark Kent still discovering his powers (and finding out about what else the meteor caused when it hit Smallville) whilst also going through all the usual teenage stuff.

The characters are all very likeable and well played but particularly Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor - he is very charismatic! This is good stuff for any superhero fan.

The story of Superman when he was a teenager.
Very entertaining stories which just keep getting better.
I seen the show on TV once or twice, enjoyed what i'd seen, so I'm getting the box sets.
Not to be missed series, if you enjoy this type of stuff.

Good series. Got season 1-7 for £50.00 import from Hong Kong or something. A couple of the DVDs are a bit dodgy and are a pain to watch but 2 or 3 episodes out of 45 dvds is not bad.

Got into smallville is season 7, i decided to go back and buy the previous series im glad i did, season 1 is so good!

absolutely brilliant series keeps you wanting more, this is basically how superman came to be starting from his childhood to how he came to learn about his newly accuired powers

My boyfriend is big fan of Smallville and introduced me to it and now I love it too! I brought season 1 last month and brought season 2 today, can't wait to see it. It is addictive, it is hard not to watch another episode lol. I am looking forward to seeing all seasons and hope there'll be season 9 :)

This is such a great item to buy. I've recently been watching it on and off on e4, but wanted to know how it started out. This series boxset really is good, and i'd say a must-have for any smallville or superman fan, just because it's the first to an amazing television show, i'll never get bored of watching.

great tv series Iam a fan of Tom welling I did watch this on tv at the time but I lost my recording so I decided to buy a pre recorded one as wel. series one is great as it tells the story how Clarke kent came to be and who he really is.. some of the scenes have deleted ones in as well so you get to see more on the pre dvds than on tv.. and this product is cheaper online as well as the other one compaired to the shop ones that are dearer.. I don't think I have any dislikes about this dvd its great

I love smallville the disks were in perfect condition and the box was in almost perfect condition thanks a brilliant ebayer

The storylines get better as the series continues and it is not repeative by going over old ground. New characters are introduced to keep it fresh

I came across this box set while I was bored and thought I would give them ago. Haven’t quite finished it yet but so far I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying it. I’m no longer 17 shall we say so the whole Lana / Chloe/ Whitney/ Clark teenage love square is a little dull, I’m way more interested in the Lex story line and wish they would delve deeper into his past and maybe bring back a little more of the old Lex…. Bad is fun!!!! I also like the way as Clark gets older his powers develop makes him seem like a normal teenager growing up but with a twist, but on the other hand I think its odd that he hasn’t got much interest in where he came from and didn’t seem that bothered when he found out about the space ship he came in. Overall I’m really enjoying season 1 and cant wait to watch the rest it may not be as gripping or exiting as other tv shows but it will still pull you in to the point when you have to keep watching. Highly recommended! Even if your not 17 anymore!!!
