Magnificent & Maleficent

I confess, I'm not a big Disney fan. My wife is, and we're transferring her VHS collection over to DVD slowly. The Disney films I like are as far away from Walt's favourites as can be, so Sleeping Beauty ranks down around the bottom of my preferred Disney flicks.
Having said all that, this Platinum Edition is a FANTASTIC DVD set! The remastered & widescreened film looks unbelievable, and the extras are superb and really go as far as I can imagine going for a DVD of just one film. There are attraction walkthroughs (with accompanying history, as is necessary for this obscure attraction) with nice interactive features, lots of art and info on the artists who were instrumental in the film's design (including the short '4 Artist Paint One Tree'), deleted songs, an alternative opening...and much more, as they say. One feature I don't think has gotten enough notice is that this version has an all-star commentary by John Lasseter (Pixar's very first animator), Andreas Deja (a lead animator for Disney, and a go-to guy on the history of the animators in the heyday) and film critic/historian Leonard Maltin! I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm excited enough about it to have come to write this review JUST to mention it.
Certainly, there's probably something missing or some other reason for genuine Disney geeks to sniff at this Platinum Edition Sleeping Beauty, but for the just-more-than-casual film buff this is a must-have set! Get it while it's there, because when Disney say 'limited edition,' they mean it.
