The Skeleton Key (DVD)

The Skeleton Key sees us following the story of Caroline, a care worker, who goes to a mansion in the outskirts of New Orleans to help an elderly lady take care of her husband. Caroline's curiosity after learning some mysterious thing sbaout the couple and the house they live in, she uses the Skeleton Key to explore the house and comes across more than she had bargained for.

Everyone in the movie acts superbly in this chilling and sometimes quite scary movie from the same writer as "The Ring". There's plenty of suspense and a fantastic twist towards the end of the story as we learn the truth behind the couple who live at the mansion. It's a really great storyline, quite scary although perhaps not on the same level as "The Ring".

It will keep you entertained though and certainly worth watching if you are into voodoo or anything slightly similar. If you like really scary movies you will almost certainly enjoy this. not particularly gory, but chilling nevertheless.

Full of Mystery and Suspense! First class movie with extras on DVD like deleted scenes etc.
Brilliantly acted by Kate Hudson (Caroline), the unsuspecting care taker, who looks after John Hurt (Ben Devereaux), the victim of a stroke who she cares for and Gena Rowlands (Violet)Ben'ss strange unfeeling wife and Caroline's weird employee.
The first sense you get that something is awry, is when Ben tries to drag himself from the house in the middle of the night! All is not what it seems!
There is a love interest too for Caroline, in the form of the handsome attorny, who looks after the Devereaux's afairs.
Everything seems to stem from the house's past and the plot turns and leaves you wondering what is going on, but the final climax is brilliant with the famous 'twist in the tail' ending.
Enough said, don't want to spoil it for you.
The UK rating of 15 is just right, too scary for the kids!

I like this film because i found it interesting from the very start. It made me think about the situation within the film, along with the characters. Once i thought i new a character something else would then make me question that them! It is a very clever film, well thought out, with surprising turn around at the end. If you like a few twists in your film, a film with a difference then this is the film for you. Both gripping and jumpy at times well worth a watch.

I absolutely thought the film way excellant, it has you watching from beginning to end not wanting to leave it, really good twist to the story, you feel sorry for certain characters and then again dont. make sure you watch it with someone, because the next day and the next, you will be saying 'Oh yes he did that, Oh and she was that, and they were?' everyone needs to view this film.
I had already seen it ages ago, and just had to buy it to watch again, and need my family to see it. A1 FILM...........

Good movie, not much scary though due to fact that this movie was based on mainly magic and stuff, which maked this movie less scary. Should have made the plot more, twisted and could have involed a ghost or two in the main plot. Great for killing the time but if you are up for super-scare then i won't recommended this.

From time to time a film is released that makes you remember why you fell in love with films in the first place. There are so many average films made that sometimes you wonder if anyone will ever make something decent again. The Skeleton key is deffinately one of those with one the best and cleverest twists I have seen in a very, very long time.

The acting in this film is superb from all involved, Kate Hudson's performance flawless and extremely believable,not least John Hurt, who manages to portray so much emotion without speaking through virtually the whole film. The settings are few but effective and the house is the perfect setting for this chilling tale. The film is perfectly paced and gives enough exposition throughout so you never get the feeling that you have no idea what is going on. There are a few creepy moments but not enough to class it as a horror. It's NOT at all predicible nor overly soppy - which really makes it enjoyable.

Well worth buying if just for the ending alone.

If you liked 'The Ring'you will love this film. The feature runs for 100 minutes and it has your mind working over time. Everytime you think you have solved the chiller you are proven wrong. Also available are the deleted scenes,exploring voodoo and the audio commentary with Diector Iain softly.

You would be forgiven for thinking that The Skeleton Key is nothing more than a typical horror. That's what I thought when I first saw the film in the rental shop. But it is much more, and has a twist at the end which is both imaginative and well planned. Added to that is the fact that the actors and actresses play their performances spectacularly, including a surprise role by John Hurt.
Strongly recommended.

chilling and beautifully crafted without much gore.brill.definately a future classic.kate hudson is also a sympathetic character in it and you don't want to throttle her.She's a very good protagnist for a horror film not a scared sap like those in 'the strangers'.Like very few films I couldn't find any cracks in the plot.A great watch.

This is a really good film. That I would recomend to watch to people. It is a strange an fairly complicated film. But if watched carefully, very clever. This film was recommended to me :)

A great film,bought for my partner who enjoys a scary film or two. me and my partner watched it together and we both realy enjoyed it.

Set in Louisiana, so the scenery was interesting; main protagonist Kate Hudson, an overlooked John Hurt and a so-so Gene Rowlands. The suspense builds up but the ending is reasonably guessable. The whole change of heart in the 'I don't believe in witchcraft' kind of thing I found too schmaltzy. Didn't really so it for me.

I like buying dvds, especially horror films, I decided to buy The Skeleton Key because for two reasons: one reason - is cheaper, two reason - I was after this movie for ages.
I like this dvd, it is good but it can be confusing some bits of the movie especially towards to the end - it should have done better.

i loved this dvd. What a great twist i love films that play on your mind for days and this defo does. This film is in my top 5 of favourite films.

Average predictable movie, John Hurt acts to his usual high standard and is ably supported by the rest of the cast.
The storyline is well written with a final twist although you can see it coming well before the end.
The high definition picture quality is better than the standard DVD release although it is nothing to write home about.
Well worth getting a copy at the right price while it is still easily obtainable.

A good horror,bit jumpy in places,there is a good twist at the end, no good if you are scared easy, worth watching

Very good film, with a good twist to it, subtle horror with main focus on an old man who is in need of a nurse as his wife is finding it difficult to continue to care for him alone, however the real reason is much more sinister, good movie, definatley worth watching.

I heard this film was very scary but I didn't find it scary at all. A well below average film. The very end was the best bit!

I always wanted to see the Skeleton Key following the enjoyment of the Ring and The Grudge.
Slightly disappointed thou as it wasn't as scary as the other two. It had a great twist at the end.
Definately glad to have this addition to my collection.

Good film, starring Kate Hudson. She looks after old people who are dying, and fed up with her current job takes a job from the paper. The job is to take care of an elderly man who has had a stroke. The man's wife seems a bit wierd, and there's an attic that's even wierder. And the mystery moves on from there. Although similar films have been made with a young girl who goes for a job and discovers something spooky, it's one of those better films, and definitely worth watching. Great acting, not really that scary but still a good film.
