This is a limited edition of 5,000 copies, packaged in a "miniature" replica of the original vinyl LP's sleeve.Simple Minds: Mel Gaynor (vocals, drums); Jim Kerr (vocals); Charlie Burchill (guitar); Michael MacNeil (piano, keyboards); John Giblin (bass).Additional personnel: Robin Clark (vocals); Lisa Germand (violin); Sue Hadjopoulos (percussion); Douglas Cowan (programming).Recorded live at LeZenith, Paris, France in August 1986.Recorded at the Paris Olympia during the 1986 ONCE UPON A TIME tour, the two-disc LIVE IN THE CITY OF LIGHT is a sprawling, sonically crystalline set detailing Simple Minds at their commercial peak. Many longtime fans of the band feel that their earliest albums, from 1979's LIFE IN A DAY through 1981's double SONS AND FASCINATION/SISTER FEELINGS CALL, are the Scottish group's best work, but other than a brief snippet of "Love Song" from 1980's EMPIRES AND DANCE in a medley, Jim Kerr and company ignore their early years entirely. All of these 14 lengthy tracks come from the band's more commercially successful period, covering 1982's NEW GOLD DREAM, 1984's SPARKLE IN THE RAIN and 1985's ONCE UPON A TIME, plus of course the hit single "Don't You (Forget About Me)." The performances are superb, but reworkings of earlier gems like "I Travel" would have been fascinating.
