M Night Shyamalan does it again!

This is the kind of movie that is either going to infuriate you or make you think... ohhhh ya, now I understand.

The premise of the movie is ingenious. Crop circles and designs start to mysteriously appear world wide with no explanation and the story follows a small unconventional family set somewhere in the mid west USA.

The story follows a recently widowed reverend (Gibson), his children and Gibsons brother played brilliantly by Joaquin Phoenix. Gibson, having recently lost his faith because of the death of his wife is leading an un-assuming life on his farm, producing acres of corn.

His tranquil life-style is interrupted when crop circles start to appear and he begins to hear and see things during the night. Things definately start to go bump in the night! Is this the prequel to an alien invasion? Is it some sort of "Sign" that the aliens must use?

This movie is absolutely fantastic, however sometimes the story seems to go off on a tangent, leaving the viewer to think, what the hell did you do that for, something that really annoyed me, because I found most of movie excellent.

M Night Shyamalan shows once again that he is the master of suspense and twist, and someone who will surely go down in the annuls of Hollywood as a truely masterful director. Solid performances from Gibson and Phoenix give a really professional feel and something that everyone should see.

A great movie, especially when the days are dark and the nights even darker.... my advise, don't watch it alone..... :-)

Signs starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix is an on the edge suspension gripper! Set in the open farm lands of the USA, Reverend Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) is a retired man of the cloth after losing his wife to a tragic car accident. Despite his retirment, people of his home town still look to him for guidence. One day his children start to act funny when the water turns bad and tastes funny along with strange happenings around the house. This movie can be put in the same genre as "The Blair witch project" in the suggestion that nothing happens in a long space of time but throughout the movie it is building to a climax. I find movies like this fantastic because when somthing finally does happen, no matter how short the glimpse of it is, it thrills you to the core and gives you the goose bumps every horror should be able to give.

If you enjoy on the edge of your seat suspense, Signs is a good choice!

A really gripping film that unfolds after finding a crop circle in Mel Gibsons Corn field.
It's worth a watch, have seen this many times and it still makes me jump, not too scary but just right film you will want to watch again over time.

Highly recommend, has a good strong story line, very enjoyable.

I have had this movie on cassette for some time but am now changing my favourites over to DVDs. This one was a must it is a hugely enjoyable film with quite a few belly laugh moments. It seems as though the cast had such a good time making it, with outstanding performances from the child actors too. How lovely to watch a film that dosen't include four letter words every few minutes, because the writer of this script wasn't too lazy to find the right words to express emotions.

an eerily suspenseful, deeply absorbing piece that works as a treatise on spirituality as well as a solid sci-fi thriller.

  Great Intense Extra-Terrestrial film.

A well worth seeing film, especially for any extra-terrestrial film fans.
Mel Gibson and the handsome Joaquin Phoenix work really well together as father & son type of relationship, (although they are brothers in the film), and the 2 young children act very well too, unlike some young actors.
The film is basically about a window (Gibson) the faithless ex-vicar with his 2 children who find crop circles on there family farm and then find themselves in the middle of an alien invasion, its not funny nor a comedy, its a intense, believable story line.

  Signs - Mel Gibson

I went to the cinema a few years back to see this movie and thoroughly enjoyed it and added it to my DVD collection. I was prompted to dust the cobwebs off my DVD when I saw it advertised on the TV last night and once again I was hooked by the story line.

This movie is well written with a great mix of laughter, tears and scary bits and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around and would definately recommend it as 'one to add to your collection'.

I've always been of the opinion that an invasion from out of space would finally bring man together as one united group. This film, beautifully directed and photographed, assumes that ETs visit would send us all grappling to regain faith in our gods. Suddenly, I understood that this is exactly what would happen and that peoples would clan together into their own religious groups. A film that makes you think beyond the end credits.

Just seen this movie the other week and I already want to see it again, Mel Gibson is great in the film. Great story line with some fantastic twists and turns that you dont "see" (as Hess wife said to him before she died) until its over and you think " ohhhh yea that happened for a reason" a great story about a man and his faith and the "signs" he sees along the way

Story:
It's contaminated. That's what pint-sized Bo (Abigail Breslin) says about every glass of water that she tries to drink, then rejects. This is just one in a long list of strange occurrences that are changing the lives of the Hess family. Things go awry when Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his brother, Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix), awake early one morning to find the dogs barking and the children--Bo, and her brother Morgan (Rory Culkin)--wandering bleary eyed in the corn fields. They discover a pattern of perfectly carved crop circles left the night before. Trying not to overreact, Graham ignores the media frenzy that has permeated all television and radio stations, and even shrugs off the oddly familiar information that Morgan reads in his book about extraterrestrials invading earth. The real challenge for Graham is to find the faith he needs to pull himself, and his family, through this unexplainable series of events.
SIGNS is the long-anticipated film from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE), a suspenseful and uniquely chilling family story.

Comments:
Awesome movie!
Like in '' The 6th sense '' this movie gives you little by little , little clues as in the end how to defeat the invading aliens.

The pastors wife gets killed in a car-crash, he thinks she's just randomly saying stuff, when she's saying '' Swing Away '' & '' See '' .

Enjoyed this movie enormously, very mutch recommendable. A++++++++++++++++++

Mel gibson plays this roll well, Its a bit scary and the story line is superb.

Not going into detail but to cut a long story short its about one families struggles and if that wasnt enough then throw in some scary creepy aliens and you have a movie to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Not what i would class as a family movie but one to add to the dvd collection along with the other scary films etc...

Very enjoyable film - BIG BUT- Feel that the issue of crop circles was generalised to be either mass hoaxing or aliens from outer space only. Brilliant that M Night Shamaylan has got it out into the film goers consciousness but no further references given to this amazing phenomena. For those who want to know more check: www.cropcircleconnector.co.uk and www.cropcircleship etc etc. There are many baffled scientists monitoring these beautiful designs - see also BBC archives. National newspapers taking an interest include Daily Express, Daily Mail, Daily Star, Country Life let alone the fraternity of conspiracy theorists.

Also check Nexus, Fortean Times etc - sorry to any I've missed. The geometry must be telling us something........but what?!!!!!! Portals to another dimension? Ghosts of mathematicians? What's gonna happen in 2012 (end of the Mayan calendar)?

The story unfolds on a corn farm where Gibson's Graham Hess (a former minister who has left the church in the wake of his wife's death) raises his two kids with the help of his brother Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix). If you're ready to believe that Phoenix is a brother of Gibson, you've got the ability to suspend disbelief for what happens next. Eventually crop circles appear, and the Hess's dismiss them as the work of local pranksters, but soon enough the evidence becomes overwhelming: Aliens are coming. When lights appear in the sky over hundreds of worldwide cities, the Hess family boards up the farmhouse and hides in the cellar, fending off the invasion.

This is a very intense and thrilling film that ( WILL ) keep you on the edge of your seat !!!

This is not to be missed.
