This is a movie about a sniper (Mark Wahlberg) who is one of the best in his field. Something went wrong in the past and now he live alone in the woods. People from the government approach him because there is a plan of killing the president of the USA and they want someone with his knowledge in order to avoid it. He accepts but something goes very wrong and he accused for the murder of someone. Now he tries to prove that he is not the killer while everyone is looking for him.
Very nice movie, nice with straight forward plot. The script has no holes and Mark Wahlberg acting is a good one.
If you like action, snipers, shooting etc is must see.
A movie to buy because you can see it again many times without getting bored.

This film has conspiracy theories, military hardware and loads of action, I loved it from the start.

Great entertainment, definitely worth a second viewing.


Plot summary:

Bob Lee Swagger, (Mark Wahlberg) is an exceptional US Marine sniper who becomes a recluse after he and his partner are abandoned in a secret mission in Ethiopia.

Living in the Rockies, the secret service finds him and frame him for the attempted assassination of the US President.

Bob uses all his Military skills to track the people who framed him.

Mark Wahlberg has come a long way since the days of Marky Mark. From just being out of grasp of an Oscar for ‘The Departed’, he’s now having a crack at his previous co-star's game (Matt Damon) by going all Bourne-like on us with ‘Shooter.’

Wahlberg plays eagle-eyed marksman, Bobby Lee ("I drew the short straw on names") Swagger - a sniper who retires after a top secret mission goes down the crapper and his superiors leave him and his bullet riddled partner in enemy territory.

Pulled back in by shady government men (including top bad guy, Danny Glover), Swagger reluctantly accepts the job to foil a plot to assassinate a major political figure. Giving all the necessary details into how the hit could go down, the entire operation is spun on its head when the mission turns out to be a set up and Swagger is targeted as the fall guy. On the run and out for revenge, Swagger intends to set his sights on those that have framed him, and pull the trigger.

For those missing 80s action flicks, fear not. ‘Shooter’ is jam-packed with classic clichés of yester year: we’ve got a hero that has ditched his violent ways to live a life of peace in a mountain cabin, ala ‘Commando’ only to be pulled back in to duty. He gets stitched up by the love interest who is also the widow of the partner he lost in the first place, who naturally trusts him immediately, even though they’ve never met. Hmmm. The film even delivers some killer one liners - when discussing his motive for revenge, cement faced Swagger, gruffly replies with “you don’t understand – they killed my dog”. It’s moments like this that put the icing on the action cake, and bad news for baddies as Wahlberg comfortably fits into the action role once again.

But a film that’s reminiscent of the old ‘Bang Bang Ya Dead’ actioners of the 80s doesn’t really have much of a place in a time of calculated covert operators like Bond and Bourne, making Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Shooter’ slightly off target, but only by inches.

Extras may be a little thin, but the behind the scenes documentary is worth a look. Focusing on the preparation for Mark Wahlberg taking the role of Swagger, this chunky bit of info looks at how a sniper works, and showing that it isn’t just point and shoot. These bad ass marksmen have to take in every detail – including the curvature of the earth. Mental! Short, sweet and proof that Marky Mark and a rifle is now a deadly combination – fact!

Mark Wahlberg might be the Bruce Willis of the new generation. His taciturn Bobby Swagger is perfect.
The action is basically nonstop and very gritty. Bobby is a sniper who has retired to the mountains after being screwed by the government in an event which finds his sidekick dead.
After being set up, he is stone cold killer.
Think Jason Bourne as someone who remembers his past is really p.o.'d about it. The acting is good all around, with Glover and Beatty as bad guys you love to hate.
Underlying all this a morality tale about what this country and its government have become.
Many situations, of course, stretch the imagination , but watching a sense of honor prevail, no matter how briefly, is worth the price.
No Oscar nominations here, but a big bundle of money for the producers will be no surprise.

I like action films but although Shooter starts well and looks to be promissing in this catorgary I couldn't help feeling disapointed by the end, while it starts off entertaining enough it seems to go down hill as time goes on and all becomes a bit predictable and the ending dissapointing. By no means the worst film I've seen but personally I wont be giving it a second watch. Started off good but unfortunatly ended up average.

exciting film, had seen it before but thought it was so good id better have it on dvd. Great for anyone who likes conspiricy films.

Good film...the ending might have been a bit predictable but it was alright. Some of the sniping if amazing on it...Great head shots haha!

Fast moving. well written story line, and very well directed.
I bought it because it reminded me of the JF kennedy conspiracy theory!

This is one cracking good film i would recomend it to anyone the plot keeps you rivited to the screen from start to finish

I love'd this movie, it is full of action and has you gripped to your seat!

It is well worth viewing if your into action movies.
Basicly is about a sniper in the forces that get recruited by the government to try and find out where a sniper will try and shoot the president from. And get set up and ends up on the run trying to prove his innocents killing loads on the way.

Well worth a watch 10/10.

Quick and easy transaction,highly recommended. Very good action film which lived up to it's original newspaper review when it first came out at the cinema.

Mark Wahlberg does a very good job portraying a detached veteran, Bob Lee Swagger, who has no respect for the government. He is backed up by an outstanding Michael Pena and Danny Glover. Elias Koteas also with a good job performance Jack Payne, a borderline psychotic government agent.

Shooter works around a conspiracy that is convincing and elaborate. The film really puts you into the shoes of this sniper and gives a remarkable overview of the mindset of a snipper. It's worth the watch and the story although not new is told in a fresh manner.

Just WOW. This film is amazing! So well directed and the actor is great.
Special affects are good and the story line is very clever. Overall an amazing film and should be watch by everyone!

Just watched this fast action film about assassination, double cross and framing a good honest American solder & how he has to prove his innocence against every nasty law enforcement agency & shadowy organisation that wants him dead in a very corrupt America. ENOUGH BLAZING ACTION TO SATISFY THE MOST AVID ACTION ADDICT. Well worth a bid, staring Mark Wahlberg

This is an excellent action film. To me it ranks along side 13th Warrior as a good sit down, relax the brain and enjoy film. Not wanting to give the game away all I can say is that the dog murdering baddies get what they deserve. It has an explosive start and then goes a little slow for around 15 minutes whilst all the characters are put in place, stick with it though as from the "set up" onwards it's good, especially the ranch scene. To sum up if you want an intellectual in depth film this is not for you, while if you want a good shot 'em up this is it.

I simply loved this film! The plot can be a little complicated at times but the overall effect is this incredibly tense film. The acting is believable, important for any film, and the score sets the mood well. It is well worth the money these DVDs go for on E-bay! Highly reccommended to those who like a GOOD conspiritorial plot along with some awesome explosions of course!

The action's fast-paced, the actors fit their roles, and the 'don't trust the government' undertone is timely. Yet there's something off about Shooter that keeps it from being a real first-rate thriller. Plot holes and a couple of badly miscast supporting players hurt the film and unfortunately no amount of shooting or blowing things up can save Shooter from just missing its target.

i like this film because of the nature of the film . a trained sniper working for the goverment get -tried to be frammed for a muder . aome-one was killed and they say the bullet was fired from his gun. then they set out to comfirm it but as it turns out at the end it could not of been fired from his weapen as he made his weapons useless with out a sertain part . i bought this film for the action it contains and for the cheap price of £8 . bargin
