Amazing action thriller in which a lone hero - who makes James Bond look like the leader of a sewing circle - battles to stop an army of gangsters from murdering a newborn baby! Lots of great one-liners among the blood and bullets.

Synopsis: Dive into the most thrilling blast of action excitement ever put to film! Intense, gritty and undeniably fun, this pulse-pounding adrenaline rush is so shamelessly over-the-top. When the man known as Smith (Clive Owen), a gorgeous streetwalker (Monica Bellucci) and a maniacal hitman (Paul Giamatti) get swept up in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, it sets off an explosion of armed thugs, flying bullets and nonstop action so big, it'll blow you away!

What that boils down to is one-man army (Owen), gets to shoot a lot of people whilst fornicating, driving, sleeping ... well the list goes on.

Cardboard cut out characters, including a lactating floozy (Belluci), a one-dimensional villain (Giamatti) and a lot of goofy henchman, are the main staple of this film. The violence is as a subtle as Prince Philip's quips.

Forget the plot, script and any hopeless attempt at moralising over corporate greed and the arms industry. The film is dire. Bad beyond belief.

OK, it is meant to be a tongue-in-cheek comic book action film, but even on this account it fails miserably.

  A non stop bullet fest
Review created: 05/02/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Right from the start the bullets fly, and they continue to do so for the next 90 minutes. Fantastically choreographed shoot-out after shoot-out. The story is secondary to the action, but who cares? You don't need a great story when the action is as non stop as this. Clive Owen manages to play it straight and remain cool all the way through as the shoot-outs get ever increasingly more bizarre and inventive. You'll either love it or loathe it, but if you like stylised gun play with a great sense of humour, then this is the film for you.

  Rip Roaring , shoot fest
Review created: 05/07/09

Clive Owen , stars in this bullet fest , it puts the corn in corny , it wizzes along , its very far fetched , but very entertaining , it wont tax the brain , but the hero seems to be bullet proof , it seems to be trying to use more bullets than Black Hawk Down , with a huge body count , to equal Rambo , the scene that really stands out is the Fingers , being snapped ,ow , very much in the style of sin city , try counting the bodies, for a laugh ..

  shoot em up
Review created: 29/05/09

Relax, switch your brain off, stick your tongue in cheek and settle down. If you can do all of these things, then Shoot Em Up is one of the most downright fun movies you’re likely to have seen in some time. Just make sure you’ve adhered to the aforementioned checklist to the letter first.

Shamelessly over the top, and boasting a carnival of action sequences that each seemingly try to out do the other, the core of Shoot Em Up is Paul Giamatti (Sideways) and Clive Owen (The Inside Man) pitted against each other. In the middle is some nonsense over saving a newborn child, and Monica Belluci’s call girl gets put into the mix too.

That said, all plot is thrown out of the window at every opportunity in favour of more action, upping the body count and – heck, why not? – a bit more action. And you know what? Shoot Em Up works, and it does so because everyone is in on it. This is no postmodern pretentious reworking: this is a fun, stylish action movie, and proud of it. It boasts a trimmed-to-the-wire running time, some outrageous sequences, a few bum notes but a whole lot of energy. And while it is, all considered, an excitable action movie and nothing more, Shoot Em Up is also uproarious entertainment, and the kind of film that Friday night was invented for.

Talk about some real action !!!

This movie has it all!! It even has a carrot which was used to make a point quite literally, it was and had a Bond type theme as the lead actor was supposed to be the next Mr Bond but for whatever reason he wasn't selected to play the part or he turned it down, anyway excellent movie listen for the bond sygnia music played in the background and there is no doubt as to the theme employed in this movie full of action and rather sexy at times which was a good mix of everything exciting you would want in a movie maybe it was far fetched but isn't that what movies like this are about.. I rather enjoyed this movie as an action flick you can't go very wrong with this one enjoy..

What an amazing film -- it is over the top by a long way -- but having said that it is great entertainment and if you like your films with non-stop action and a fairly uncomplicated story line this is the film for you. The acting is excellent and the action set pieces are very good indeed. As it says on the cover -- Awesomely entertaining prepare to be blown away

Possibly the best action film ever, this is a film that requires no logical thinking at all, due to the fact the storyline is Clive Owen running around shooting people the entire film, it makes for great watching. If you can get past your skeptisism for some of the unrealistic scenes (mainly all of them) this will be a very enjoyable film.

Described as containing more action per frame than any Die Hard, Lethal Weapon or James Bond film, it certainly does 'what it says on the tin'. It has to be said that this film is 'over the top' in terms of shooting (I lost count after about 5 minutes how many people Smith (Clive Owen) had killed - including those killed with his favorite food the Raw Carrot). But all in all if your looking for some fast paced slightly tongue in cheek action then this is for you. Monica Bellucci looks Great as Well !!

  Worth a look quite funny
Review created: 29/01/08

Its funny from the start and well worth watching, he is a down to earth southern chap and gets lumbared with a baby with a price on its head, poor thing. You can really empathise with him at some points in the film. The action is really good and keeps you glued to the screen, good story line and good ending. a good evenings entertainment..

Have A Look!!!

I'm embarassed that I even watched this movie to the end. I'm embarassed for Clive Owen and Paul Giamati. I'm embarassed for the entire human race that anyone would consider this a worthwhile exercise. I've nothing against movies with lots of guns and a huge body count but this was just pointless drivel. Comedy ? Try this out for size. Clive and Monica entwined....gun battle breaks out....still entwined....gun battle ends....Clive "I've shot my load". And that's pretty much par for the course. If you think that's funny by all means watch the film but you could save a few quid by going down to the nearest public convenience and engaging with the wit and wisdom of the toilet cubicle.
