The Shield - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2003)

The Shield for me is the most realistic police drama ever made and it doesn't pull any punches!
The acting from all concerned is first rate and I cannot recommend this show highly enough!

Well people, I'll start off by saying that, as a rule, i NEVER watched TV. absolutely hated it. You know, would rather be doing something more constructive. But did I have my eyes opened when this series came along?
Now I'd seen a few episodes of CSI and its subsequent spin-offs, which, to be honest, gave us mild entertainment. Then suddenly there was Michael Chicklis taking down dealers, bangers, rapists, murderers and getting something for himself in the process.
This has to be the most honest and gritty cop show you could ever see. It grabs you by the balls and defies you to struggle free until youve watched every episode of the season you are watching.
As corrupt cops go, Vic Mackey and his Strike Team of Shane, 'Lemonhead' Lemanski and Ronnie, taking on their Captain Aceveda and facing stiff opposition from Wyms and Dutch, this takes the biscuit. No holds are barred in any episode and from Mackey blasting off a dead guys head with a shotgun to cover his own arse, to Aceveda being forced into giving a perp a blow-job, you'll be shocked all the way through.
If youve seen any of this amazing series, you'll know what I mean and I urge you to see more. And if you havent..... buy some now and find out what you're missing.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

Really cool and realistic - bad cop but means well most of the time! Not too "I'm a martyr" and he still has self-gain but it's riveting stuff, a bit explosive!

A must see - reealy enjoyed this series - shame it has to come to an end. I heard it recommended bu Jonathan Ross on the radio and decided to D/L the first series - I watched 2 episodes and I was hooked. Highly recommended.

Heard about this via friends, and wasn't disappointed at all, gripping American Cop drama, gritty with a very explosive start. Ruthless Vic Mackie leads the Strike Team, and makes his own rules, as a bent, but somewhat swashbuckling Policeman.

Watched a couple episodes on t.v from different seasons. Thought it was an unbelievable show! But some scene's were hard to follow. Each episode is the follow up of the one previous. If you miss an episode or two on t.v, it sometimes leaves you wondering what its all about!
I then decided to go on eBay and buy all the seasons and watch it from scratch. The best decision i ever made. I'm completely hooked.
Pity they only made 7 seasons! Just waiting for the 7th to be released June!

I bought this dvd for my brother who loves these type of films. It's about a Los Angeles neighbourhood is inhabited by prostitutes, gangsters and drug pushers. Detective Vic Mackey heads up the 'Strike Team' set up to deal with serious crime in the area.

i had watched a few episodes on tv and they looked pretty good. I was not sure from which series i had seen them, So i thought i would start with the first as the one.

After watching the first few episodes on series one we looked for the second series straight away. We are now eagerly awaiting delivery of the second series as we have finished watching the first. Awsome characters and plots. We are now wanting to know how it will all end after getting to like all the characters, even the bad ones, as they all have some great facination.

From the very first episode I was hooked! An edgy police drama with a seemingly never ending series of cliffhangers and shocks along the way. Waiting for series 7 to be released is hard, the seventh seasons is currently airing in the US, and there is not one bad episode in any of them. The acting is very good, the actors make the characters believable and you will probably find yourself siding with Vic and his team as I was.

The UK, Region 2, DVDs come in a Shield series standard card foldout wallet inside a card sleeve so care needs to be taken to avoid damage. Though this is nicer than the four thin DVD boxes that the Region 1 set came in.

i bought this dvd of the shield for a friend for his xmas and he tells me he so enjoyed it. the dvd came through the post fast and in tact thank you yours ever2843

i saw a couple of episodes of this series and liked it,then it just disappeared a family member came home from usa for christmas and it was mentioned it rekindled my memory as he had seen them all in usa so i went on ebay and purchased series 1. hope to enjoy and then buy more.

This is not your typical cop show, it's very different. I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this series but I after watching maybe 2 or 3 episodes I'm hooked!!! The lead character Vic Mackey is very hard to warm to but yet there's a part of you that really really wants to like him and feel sympathy with his "causes".
I can't wait to watch the second season now!

Vic Mackey the cop you love to hate or hate to love, which ever, takes the 'cop show' to the next level. Great stuff.

great condition thanks. no scratches perfect condition, the box is a little shabby. but over all great.

Great gritty cop drama..... unbelievable but believable twists and take on police life in the states..

What a series, can't belive i missed that when it was on TV. Shame it was only 13 episodes long, but will have to invest in the second series.

This is the best cop series ever - this copper knows what he is doing and has his heart exactly where it needs to be - he goes far enough to get what he needs done, but knows the extreme limits!

an excellent tv series and one to watch over and over again at your leisure on dvd. I also believe that vic mackey is really a nice person at heart.

The Shield ranks as 'seminal' for a TV series, along with the likes of The Sopranos and Lost. The fact that Glenn Close and Forest Whittaker signed up for entire seasons speaks for its quality. It's not just another police drama, it pushes the boundaries between political correctness and life on the streets, and leaves the viewer immersed in the gritty reality of LA's gang culture.
