Serendipity (DVD 2002)

Jonathan and Sara (John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale) are two people looking for love. Well, actually, that's not entirely true - they're two people looking for GLOVES. You see, both are already paired off with significant others - but what they really want are a pair of gloves. The same pair of black gloves from the Chrimbo sale in Bloomingdale's, to be precise. And so, that's how they meet - by first squabbling, and then flirting, over that last pair hanging on the rack.
Anyway, to cut to the chase, an impromptu date ensues, the pair have the time of their secretly-unfulfilled lives and, just as Jonathan starts to think his luck is well and truly in, Sara rushes off without leaving him any contact details. Apparently she thinks it isn't meant to be, or isn't written in the stars, or some old guff like that. Women, eh?
A couple of years later and both are about to be wed - Jonathan to the pretty but characterless Halley (Bridget Moynihan) and Sara to some sort of ridiculous lank-haired one-man Kula Shaker tribute act (John Corbett). So, in one last effort at finding out what they might have missed out on, both spend the bulk of the rest of the movie piecing together what few clues they have and searching desperately for their lost "soul mate".
If you're thinking it all sounds a bit daft, you are, of course, completely right. For the most part, the film only works if you're prepared to believe in a string of contrivances and coincidences. But, having said that, it's just about charming enough to pull it off. Cusack and Beckinsale are an intrinsically likable pair, which makes you want it all to go well for them regardless of how dippy you know the whole thing is. There are also some nicely-written comic scenes, most notably one involving a music video and any of the others to feature Eugene Levy's uptight shop assistant.
You shouldn't expect any major surprises from this one - but, then again, if the romantic comedy genre is your thing, you'll already know that. 'Serendipity' does nothing original, but it's amusing, it's nice, and it more or less achieves everything it sets out to do.

I hadalready seen the film befor ethis purchase, but it has to be one of my most favourite films ever, filled with all kinds of twists and turns, i give it a top 5/5 !!!

Keeps in sweet tention through whole film and you don't have a clue what is going to happen. It shows how life can take care of our destiny.

The story behind me purchasing this DVD from ebay is a bit like the film itself - fell in love with something, lost it and then found it again!

I love the film but due to my generous nature agreed to lend it to several friends. Unfortunately they did not take as much care of it as I did and one of them lost it - or temporarily misplaced it, is the phrase she often says to me. So I decided to run a search through ebay as I could not imagine my girlie collection of films without it. Low and behold there were several copies available, after three unsuccessful bids, I was delighted to win this copy and at such a good price too.

My collection is complete again and the moral of this story is to be very selective as to who I lend my DVD's to in the future!!

Would recommend ebay to anyone searching for a replacement of something that has been lost, you never know you might find it and much, much more besides.

I have only seen this film once before which was a long time ago, but I always remembered it. I had to own it....one word.........SERENDIPITY. Its not a case of love or hate.....just love love love

I decided to buy this because my friends said it was a good film....I enjoyed the film, maybe a little far fetched and predicatable in parts. Overall a good chick flick ...

although I only gave it good it's a very watchable film intruging and funny there is a lot going for it and it's very believable.

This is exactly what life is about in that why relationships are doomed to failure until you meet the right person, no matter how hard you try it is absolutely all about Serendipity (fate) that drives us all…………anyone who watches this and doesn’t understand what I have written is either very cold or never found true love………………Happy watching…………

i watched this film a long time ago and i am not a romantic, but then again i'm not a boxer but i wished i was rocky when i watched them all an in this movie i really wish i was john cusack go out and get it you'll love it

i purchased this dvd as a friend said it was good, it is an easy film to watch. it is about two people who meet and are instantly attracted to eachother but are both in relationships. the woman believes highly in fate so writes her name and number in a book and sells it to a used book store,he writes his on a bank note and then spends it, they decide if they ever get them back they should call, it is an oddly romantic story of their search for eachother, do they find each other? purchase a copy from ebay, mine was £5 with P&P. Xx

A funny lovable film for the love of your life,so get this one for valentines day chaps and you will be in the good books for a few more days.

A lovely title - a lovely film. I truly have lost count of the number of times I have watched it.

The first time I saw it was when I had recorded it from the television. Loved every minute of it until... you guessed it, in the very last 5 minutes - the recording died. I never thought that I would buy a film just to see the last five minutes, but I did!

It isn't just me who loves it, but also my 'hardened' teenage lads who have watched it almost as many times as I have.

What is so good about it you ask? Everything! The actors, the plot, the dialogue, which together make for a very entertaining love story.

'Serendipity' means 'the occurrence and development of events by chance' - do things really happen just by chance or is our destiny determined for us... you decide!

Sunday afternoon is the only time of the week that I get to be lazy. So I scanned the TV channels until I came accross a film that looked interesting. It was, well it was, that is until the commercial break. So I flicked to ABC and by the time I went back again I'd missed a couple of minutes of the film. This is how it carried on for about forty five minutes, watch a bit miss a bit, another bloody advert. That's when I decided there must be an alternative, E-BAY, I logged on, bought the film and the following Sunday watched it all the way through, without somebody trying to sell me a big shed or a new car.

I myself am not normally soppy, but this is a great and very clever love story with mishaps and near misses along the way.
The main character 'John Cusack' is one of my wifes favourite actors and to be honest I quite fancy 'Kate Beckinsale'the leading lady.
They meet, they part, they're so close yet so far apart, are they meant to be together? only fate will decide their destiny.
Well we love this film, I bought it for my wife on mothers day (as well as the chockies, flowers etc)and fully recomment it to anyone.
A must for the collection.

i have looled for this film for ages have seen it on tv but well worth buying a great chick film romantic makes you believe in love sometimes
