I have always enjoyed computer games, from the days of playing Sonic 2 on the Sega Megadrive to my current exploits on the PlayStation 3 I have spent hours distracted, playing games on consoles and the PC. For the past four console 'generations' I have been there, the proud owner of one or more of the competing machines looking forward to the next big thing and looking back on the systems I sold to raise money for the next new machine with fond memories - and that's all they were memories, until recently that is.

When I started using e-bay and discovered its world of buying and selling items that to some are outdated waists of attic space, but to others are cherished memories a click away from being relived, I realised I could rebuild the collection of games I once lovingly played for hours on the systems that I spent Christmas holidays hoping were under the tree.

So, armed with a PayPal account and trying to remember the games I once proudly owned I set about bidding on the consoles and games that once moulded my childhood. First a SEGA megadrive, the first console I ever owned was delivered along with all the games I owned for it, then an N64 and a handful of games were purchased and added to the collection of PSone and PS2 classics I saved over the years due to backwards compatibility. All that was left to buy was SEGA's Dreamcast - the forgotten console of 'last generation'.

The Dreamcast was and always has been a terribly underrated console. On it's release it was miles ahead of the competition, it was innovative, groundbreaking and brilliant to play. From its wonderfully different memory cards to it's amazing list of wonderful games, the Dreamcast was criminally overlooked by gamers around the world waiting for the incoming PS2 to such an extent it finished off SEGA as a hardware maker.

Because of this the console will always be remembered as a failure, which is a shame as if all was fair in the world it should have been remembered as anything but. With its fun factor, incredible games and internet play long before other consoles could go online there must still be people at SEGA wondering how this wonderful little white box ever failed.

The Dreamcast was probably better than Nintendos offering of the same generation, easier to produce games for than Sony's PS2 while often surpassing it in terms of quality content, and basically set the blue-print for Microsoft's X-Box introduced years later.

The games for the console are also excellent, it launched with probably the best launch line-up of any console ever, with titles like Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibre setting the bar high, and SEGA continued to pump out a solid string of quality titles right up to the death of the system. Its short lifespan belies the incredible quality of titles out there such as the 2K sports series, Jet Set Radio and of cause Shenmue to name a few.

SEGA added nice touches to everything about the console, from its brilliant memory cards (VMUs) with little screens making them tiny handheld consoles, to attractive minimalist branding and even threw in a web browser (something the Xbox360 still doesn’t have) - I still cat help but wonder how different things would have been had it had a DVD player built in.

Anyone who thinks the Dreamcast failed due to quality hardware of software is sadly mistaken - from its build quality to its games and innovative addons the Dreamcast is brilliant. SEGA is gone, this wonderful system shouldn’t be forgotten.

Dreamcast was the last in the line of consoles sega produced in the games industry. Although ahead of it's time, the dreamcast was perhaps too early in some of the technology implemented and failed. Software issues were another burden, allowing the play of illegal copied discs without the use of a chip, leading to low sales across the board.

I love this console. it has huge controllers but you hold them and they work. the ergonomics are excellent and anyone regardless of handsize will be fine. The graphics this console outputs are exceptional. one of my faveourite games soul reaver was re-made for the dreamcast and the differences are huge the dreamcast is fast and smooth and beautiful.

maybe one day i will play a game beginning with t but for now im happy.

I seriously suggest investing in a vga box though as its truly the only way to get the best out of this amazing console.

Great buy perfect condition considering the console is around 10 years old, if you like to pay games without the cost of buying the games get yourself one of these and get downloading the games of the net, I have 110+ games at the min. and the best thing is they are all free.

What a console, the final breed of sega hardware. It wasn't that this console wasn't successfull it just wasn't massivly successful. But the dreamcast was a trendsetter in that it was the FIRST console to offer a online service via a modem and i believe there was even a broadband adapter. You coud surf the internet through it via dreamkey. The quality of the games were well ahead of anything else in its class, and loads of peripherals was developed. The sega dreamcast still has a strong following today, ublic servers exist for those who still wish to try the internet service, though you'll need a broadband adapter and do a bit of googleing to find out how to get into it. There is loads of emulators been developed for it, with discs images you can download all over the net and burn to cd-r. Amazing machine. Best game? Probably Shenmu

The dreamcast was well priced, also it was a USA NTSC dreamcast, which is a model i didnt have until i bought this (I collect games consoles, mostly pre-5th-generation but the dreamcast is the exception). I was pleased with the item and the delivery time, as it was dispatched quickly and the postage was well priced as well.
It also came with the manual and cabels as well, which i dont think were listed as coming with it, so that was also a good thing.
I think that just about covers it, im very happy with my purchase and would buy from this seller again. Basically the item was what it was listed as and more.

The Dreamcast is a solid version overall.

I personally got myself a Japanese one because I wanted to be able to play Samba De Amigo ver. 2000 without the need for a chip, a boot disk, or any modification from the originally intended way it was meant to be played.

In this case in particular the drawback was with having to ensure it would work properly, as far as TV display is concerned, but more importantly as far as voltage is concerned (as Japanese voltage and UK voltage differ greatly). But that only applies to using Dreamcast from other regions and not the Dreamcast in itself.

Other than that, I think the system is great, slick looking, with some solid game like Samba De Amigo, Shenmue, etc which should be in collectors of oldie video games.
