Scott Walker - No Regrets (The Best Of Scott Walker & The Walker Brothers 1965-1976) (CD 2000)

It is impossible to deny that the voice of Scott Walker is one of the best in popular music over the last 40 years or so. Although not my favourite artiste, his short career as a succesful singer left a legacy of perhaps about 100 suberbly sung numbers that have stood the test of time and quality. He has a rather old fashioned attitude to himself and his music, which was unfortunate. This meant that he never enjoyed a lengthy and successful music career that his superb singing voice deserved. he was a pop star who happened to have a great voice. He wanted to be taken seriously as a singer. Such opposites are rarely compatible. If Eric Clapton was the best and most accomplished guitarists, then Scott Engel was the best and most accomplished popular singer.

The No Regrets album showcases Scott's unique and distinguished voice for everyone to enjoy. All the Walker Brothers hits are here. Also a few very good album tracks and some of Scott's solo work. Although this collection is by no means extensive, nearly all the tracks are excellent and Scott's brilliant vocals shine through. A few of Scott's gems are missing but, by and large, many of these songs were picked up during his time of popularity, before he was settling for mediocre tunes and forgetful songs.

I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear some excellent songs by one of the greatest singers to emerge during the 1960's. Once heard, it is impossible to forget the haunting, melodic tones of Scott's uniquely talented vocals.

Scott Walker is the voice. Anybody not know Scott walker shoud take this cheap option to hear the wonderful voice he has. After this Cd you will want to buy his Solo work. Open up you mind to a true genius.

On hearing a Walker Brother song being played on the radio it brought home to me what a wonderful voice Scott Walker has, so I decided to buy the CD and since then play it regulary.Some tracks I am not familiar with but the well known ones bring back lots of memories.

Good compilation of solo and group recordings, including tracks from the reformation in the 1970's. Sadly no 'After The Lights Go Out', which would have guaranteed an extra score. Great sound quality allows the production a dnvocals to shine through. Recommended.

fantastic depth of voice love the melodies of the classic songs ,some weird ideas on the less popular songs he just wanted to be different for the sake of it suppose-still theres not too many of them!

I bought this CD as I went to one of the gigs in the later end of the 60's its a great memory and the music takes you back but still fresh for todays music.
