Album Notes English version contains the bonus tracks "Skins" and "Get It Get It".SCISSOR SISTERS is a case study in albums that are more than the sum of their parts. On paper, the group's combination of 1970s glam, disco, and pop brings to mind Elton John, Supertramp, and a really sweaty night at the disco with a particularly deft DJ on the turntables. In practice, however, the band uses their influences not so much to create a new style as to render up something eerily familiar that isn't quite identifiable. And while the sense of the familiar makes them immediately appealing, it is the unidentified other that keeps you listening.A trio of dance-floor stompers opens the album, all thunderous bass lines, falsetto vocals, and wah-wah guitar straight out of SUPERFLY, but that's only the beginning. "T*** on the Radio," is a snarling, swaggering attack on conservatism, recorded before the Janet Jackson/Superbowl debacle, but more relevant since that time. "Better Luck" highlights a gloriously thumping honky-tonk beat. And the closing tracks, both of which use sweeping ambient electronics, end the album on that majestic crash everyone experiences once they leave the heightened reality of a nightclub and return to the drab city streets. But after a while of hearing them you sort of end up singing away to the tracks even though you thought you didn't like them, Then all of a suddon you find yourself in the music store (or on ebay_) buying their album! I know i did lol and now they are one of my favourite bands! A+++++++ Review ID: 10000000002422212 Was this review helpful? Who doesn't like this Classy sassy band? anyone with an open mind. i bought this album in 2004, and it's seldom left my CD player. if you're down or miserable sit back and turn the volume on this album, scissor sisters will soon have you up on your feet and jumping around like a loony. garranteed to put the smile back on your face, they do a stunning job over cover comfortablely numb, and that's coming from a fan of the original!! so this isn't some peoples taste, but i haven't heard many people do better covers of songs then them. they're not trying to be anything but who they are, in their own words, 'we are just avid music fans', scissor sisters, we salute you. A STUNNING first album!!! Review ID: 10000000001437009 Was this review helpful? This album is a truly excelletn collection of all Scissor Sister's hits, with the added bonus of some great unreleased tracks!! Unlike some albums that are out now, you can actually stick the album on - sing along to the first few tracks that were released, and then enjoy the rest of the album finishing with the brilliant 'Return to Oz' (And what a great track they chose to finish the album!!!). Trust me - the next time you listen to it you'll be singing along to all the choruses!! :o) Review ID: 10000000000714238 Was this review helpful?
