Samsung Omnia i9000

My review of the Samsung Onmia i9000.
Well, It's like this, you get your old Aunt and you dress her in a nice disco top, skirt and heels, then you give her a facial beauty treatment and she might look very nice indeed.
However, when you take her clubbing, it's quite obvious that she aint gonna boogie, the old joints are creaking, the energy dissolves very quickly and on a closer look it's quite obvious that this is no surprise because she is pretty old and creaky underneath the glitz.
Samsung has done good job with the makeup and heels, but this is layered on the pretty creaky Windows Mobile system, and like your old Aunt you simply can't get away from the fact that this is outdated, awkward and downright pernickety.
On the good side, like your old Aunt, this is pretty good at multitasking applications, one or more of which is available to do pretty much anything that can be done on a Windows Mobile system.
Battery life ain't much, never was on Windows Mobile system powered PDAs. You have to use the dreadful Microsoft Activesync to connect it to your PC, and this ain't gonna happen unless you set your default email handler to Microsoft Outlook, another bloated monster that will drive you crazy, and who uses this anyway?
Call volume is pretty low, even on maximum setting and is difficult to hear outdoors, screen is invisible in daylight, wading through the settings will turn you paranoid. Samsung, in their infinite wisdom have opted for a multiway connecter for headphones, power and data transfer and as it is pretty imperative to use some form of case protector with this phone, you will find that it will not fit in the supplied cradle without removing your protective case....bummer! The standard 3.5mm jack for headphones does not seem to have ever come to the notice of Samsung!
This is advertised as yet another iphone killer, some hope! The screen is smaller and pretty crowded, the hint you get here is the telescopic pointer dangling on the side, you have to use this because it is near impossible to operate any touch function with your fingers, and no, I don't have "banana" fingers!
In retrospect, I think I should have gone for one of the later Nokia range rather than this.
Finally, I can do no better than quote Panhard, who said of his torsion bar suspension system.."It's brutal, but it works". This applies perfectly here!
