In a nutshell: The G600 is a fantastic phone. It combines fab looks with a superb 5 megapixel camera, a fully featured music player and 1 Gbyte of memory. It avoids the touch-sensitive keys of recent Samsungs, making it a totally practical phone to use. We can't praise this phone enough - go on, buy it now! Available in black or silver.

Best buy: *Free* with a free XBOX 360 or PSP from Dialaphone (black) or free with a free Nintendo Wii from the Carphone Warehouse (silver); or £219.95 on Pay as you Go from The Carphone Warehouse (choice of silver or black).

The Samsung G600 brings the power of a 5 megapixel camera into Samsung's now-classic slimline slider format. Samsung just keep pushing the boundaries of what's technically possible, and the G600 has an amazing spec and a beautiful design to match. Samsung don't always make perfect phones - the E900 and U600 irritated some users with their touch-sensitive buttons - but the G600 gets everything just right and is destined to become a classic. Whilst it lacks the wow factor of the LG Chocolate or the Apple iPhone, it's just a fantastically good phone to use with nothing to detract from the experience.

At Mobile Phones UK, we like to start reviewing phones with a look at the outside. Samsung's slider design has been around for about 3 years now, and has replaced the clamshell as the UK's most popular format. The G600 opens and closes with an easy sliding action, and has a smooth silky finish that's glossy but not a fingerprint magnet like some. The G600 is not an ultra-slim phone like the U600, but at 15mm it's certainly not a fatty. It's a good practical size, and at 48mm wide it's a couple of millimetres narrower than some of the ultra-slims, which doesn't sound like much, but makes the phone easier to hold. The keypad is responsive when pressed and there are no touch-sensitive keys. The screen is large at 2.2 inches diagonally, and with 16 million colours and 240 x 320 pixels is Samsung's best screen ever. The camera is well protected behind the slide: to use it you open the slide to reveal the lens and flash. Frankly it's hard to see how the physical design could have been improved. 5 stars so far.

The G600's camera is a 5 megapixel beast with autofocus, LED flash and 4x digital zoom. The only previous phone with a 5 megapixel camera is the enormous Nokia N95, so there's really no comparison between the two. The closest competition in camera terms is probably Sony Ericsson's K810i with its 3.2 megapixel camera. Even though the Samsung beats the Sony in megapixel terms, the K810i can still (just) keep its crown as camera king for two reasons: better optics make for a (slightly) better quality image and the K810i's xenon flash beats the LED flash on the G600 for brightness. But still the G600 is an impressive camera phone and Samsung are now very close at Sony's heels when it comes to mobile photography. The G600 features two useful camera modes - panorama mode lets you take pictures of wide views such as landscapes, and macro mode lets you take close-up shots. There's a built-in picture editor, and direct printing to a Pictbridge-compatible printer is supported. High quality video recording at 640 x 480 pixels is also available.

After a camera, the next most important gadget in a mobile is a music player, and the G600 doesn't disappoint. It's Samsung's best music player so far. Every major format is supported (MP3, AAC, AAC+, 3-AAC+ and WMA). There's support for wireless

  Thinking of buying a G600?
Review created: 08/05/08
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Hi,
I have recently bought a "nearly new" samsung g600 mobile phone which I am very pleased with, and thought I would share my experience. I guess most of these phones come from people who have a pay monthly contract and who get a "free" new phone when their contract can be renewed.

These phones have often been used for a few weeks prior to sale, so it is important to check for any case or screen scratches if you consider this important - before you buy. I bought a couple of glass covers for mine for 99p which I wouldn't be without.

Many of these phones come with accessories such as a 1gb or even a 2gb memory card - well worth having if you want to make use of the excellent mp3 player and video camera.

A bluetooth headset should also be included, together with more obvious accessories such as the charger, computer lead, and PC software etc.

It is best not to install the PC software that you get with the phone, instead, go to the Samsung site and download the latest version - and install that - the version that came with my phone used to hang up so often it was unusable - but the latest version(PC Studio 3 version 3.1.3 GJ9 and PC Studio Launcher version 3.2.1 GJ4) is fine.

I would also recommend you pay a little extra for an unlocked phone if you want the option of trying a different network. Trying to unlock the phone yourself leaves you wide open to various internet scams and you could possibly completely ruin your phone.

The Samsung manual is sketchy, to say the least, but there are many hidden? features such as pressing the # key to make your videos fill the screen - or the 1 key to switch between camera and camcorder mode.

Finally, even if the phone you buy seems to have been reset to its original condition and works fine, CHECK that the seller will provide ANY password or PIN number they have ever put in the phone!! Even if the phone is set to "not require a password", you will be asked for a password if you ever want to do anything important - and there is no way of discovering or disabling a password once it is in the phone - you would need to return it to Samsung. If you find out a week or two later that your phone is asking you to input a password before it will proceed, there is a danger that your seller may have forgotten it, or be unavailable.....

Overall I am very impressed with this phone, and I thank the good ebayer who sold it to me.

  Sansung G600 - User Review
Review created: 08/01/09

Really nice phone. Has most of the capabilities of the Samsung Soul, without the irritation of the touch screen navigation (which I hated). Only criticism would be that the phone seems to take quite a while to load pictures that you have stored on the memory card. I have not come across this before with Samsung.
The G600 is a nice size, and I purchased the Belle which is a two tone red colour. Camera is great, with very good clarity of pictures taken. Ringtones can be downloaded from the CD which I have done as the pre-loaded are somewhat dull. The ring volume is excellent which is very important for us ladies who keep the phones at the bottom of our handbags!
Lots of extra functions available on the phone, such as word prediction, which you can choose to have on or not. You can also set themes on the phone for the display and in different call modes.
I have only had this phone for a day, but I find it very user friendly.

Mobile Phone Secret Government Use Backdoor Exposed
Review created: 04/10/08
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A little secret

From Frog&chips

Hello Ebayers,

I thought I'd share my knowledge with you on this latest mobile telephone craze we've been lured into & where its all been leading upto.

Most people, IE: the general public are unaware that carrying & / or using a mobile telephone capable of triangulation (tri-band or higher in other words) You have allowed yourself & your voice to be pinpointed & tracked - to a radius of 5 meters, over 98% of your country - should any government agency choose to do so at any point.

Using DRVT, digital voice regognition technology there are able to verify & record huge amounts of information on the general populus for what ever programme may require such data. The use of "key words", almost like a spell checker being just one of the many techniques used to filter potential "targets" for monitoring in the first place. There are many other techniques used that you may not be familiar with, the introduction of 3g, or third generation networks also allows for video calls along with the more traditional voice call, to be tapped & recorded.

This is surely something the telephone companys have forgotton to mention to YOU the public, at the very least it's not included in the small print or even written on the box !!

I won't , can't & should delve any further into the "hidden" aspects even having a mobile telephone can bring into your life - but at the very least please consider why you even need one in the first place ?

When the phone arrived I found it was on the orange network so I took it into a reputable shop to have it unlocked so as I could keep my own sim card and number, however when I did there appeared to be a problem with the phone as it had been blocked. They could not prove that it had been stolen as all data had been scrubbed it cost me a further £85 to get the phone operatable I would have been cheaper buying a new one instead, would be very careful when using this seller again. I did feel very cheated.

Backlight on phone keeps dimming. Informed seller but told this had not been a problem. Plus when texting, keys not always responsive. Not "immaculate" as described! However, do like the phone overall.

I Love the large colour screen (a big jump up from a Nokia 6310i).
I'm still finding my way around the Samsung menu, only once refered to the manual so far.
No problems, a good phone with an awesome 5mp camera built in....WOW.

  Life with my G600 Mobile
Review created: 06/06/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I wanted a phone for private use, I prefer one that slides, it stops those unwanted accidental calls to friends when a button is pressed whilst in your pocket, I wanted a camera phone to capture those special moments, this is a good camera with great zoom capability, reception is ultra clear, and when used with the ear piece the person you are talking too does not know you are hands free, so as a phone, it is more than capable, as a camera phone it is amongst the best available, it has been well designed, looks good, feels good, has a good battery life, it links up very nicely with my computer, it is very easy to use, probably worth 8 out of 10, a credit to the makers.
