Samsung Digimax A503 Digital Camera

This is the ideal low cost camera for carrying with you all the time. It is lightweight and easily slips into your pocket or purse.
The main reason it appealed to me was that it was fixed focus and was therefore ready quickly as a 'point and shoot camera' but had an impressive genuine 5mp resolution..If you spot anything of interest whilst out and about you can capture it quickly.I would class it as a good second camera. It obviously does not have the features of more expensive auto focus cameras, but these require far more care in their use to get the best results.
The picture quality is generally good but it takes the best pictures in the range 4m to 50m. The macro facility only produces sharp pictures if you actually measure the correct distance from the lens to the object.The flash facility is excellent as is the 'night shot' setting.Battery life is also good but you must use high capacity rechargeables for best results.
Overall a value for money camera at an attractive price from a trusted maker.

We bought this camera to replace one that we had bought for our 11 year old for his birthday, which had somehow disappeared. This camera was one step up from the one we bought him originally.

He was delighted with it as he can download pictures and a limited amount of video. He is now making a docmentary programme about our home!

It is compact and easy to operate. There is nothing about this product that we dislike.

I have had numourous cameras over the years, most let down by terrible battery life or a very small LCD screen. Having only just got this camera, up to now I am very happy with it. Battery life seems reasonable, even when using flash settings, the 2 inch LCD is bright and makes framing pictures easy. Pictbridge support makes printing photo's a breeze. I would reccommend this camera, especilly for someone who wants something easy to use with good overall results without breaking the budget.

I wanted a Sony Cyber Shot, this was 2nd choice, but I'm pleasantly surprised. It's much smaller and lighter than the Sony, its easy to use, and the picture quality is excellent. The batteries don't last long so you need to use high capacity rechargeable AA batteries. The video and sound quality are also quite good, it does lack a viewfinder (as do many other digital cameras) but after taking photos for about 60 years I feel compelled to hold a camera up to my eye. I would certainly recommend this camera to anyone else, and at this price I am sure it would be difficult to beat.

Bought by my daughter, this is a perfect camera for teenage photo fanatics. Zoom lens,split screen and choice of black and white, colour, sepia pictures. Whether for printing or sving on pc, this camera is versatiel and easy to use.

The Digimax A503 is a great little camera, compact & easy to use. The photos print off superbly well & are simply edited using the software provided. Highly recommended & well worthy of 5/5 !!!

to my surprise the camera was much smaller than expected, which is excellent. it does lack a viewfinder (as do many others these days) but I was aware of that before purchase. very easy to use, good quality pics, and basically I love it to bits. a simple no nonsense camera that doesnt take up much room, does the job and gets the results. couldnt recomend it more.

As an event was approaching i was desperate for a good quality camera to take pictures with. The camera i chose was fairly cheap for the amount of megapixels it has. it came in good condition. the camera was very easy to use, and i didnt really have to rea the instructions properly to know how to use the menu. Although the camera had lots of good features there are several downside. on certain settings the time it takes to take and process the pictures is very long, i find myself holding the camera for a long amount of time before i kno the picture is properly taken. In a ddition, i did find that a lot of the pictures cmae out blurry and out of focus. The camera works on AA batteries. i thought his would be quite convenient but i found out it was rather a hassle. the battery power is very short i find myself buying lots of AA batteries to sustain the cameras power. This is quite irritating as it always seems that the camera has low battery power, even after putting in new batteries and using the camera for 15minutes. Overall the camera is average, this is based mainly on the price i bought it for. At the time of purchase i needed a camera desperately and i wanted a fair amount of Megapixels for a good price. however when buying a camera, i have realized that it is important to look for a decent one with the good specifications and to know that a higher priced camera may be better quality.

I thought it was a great item, really small and lightweight.
The pictures I've taken so far look fab and the video quality seems great also.

I'm really happy with the purchase an absolute bargain

I've recently won a Samsung digimax A503 red and I was delighted when I received it.

Outer look is wonderful, fun red colour, compact digital camera.
Very user friendly, easy menu. The seller added 1GB memory card with the camera which lets me take lot of picture without deleting the old ones. I guess the camera doesn't have enough built in memory which could be a problem if you want to take a lot of picture and if you don't have a computer around to conect to the camera to save the pictures (specially when you are in holidays). So its better if you get an extra memory card with this camera.
The camera is really small and light, easy to carry.

2 drawbacks for this camera which I've found as a general user

For me, camera power efficiency is very important. The camera runs by 2 AA rechargeable/non rechargeable batteries. My previous camera used rechargeable li-on battery which could take a lot of pictures once charged. But with this camera I find it bit annoying that the rechargeable batteries do not last long. I think this problem will go if you use rechargeable CR-V3 battery which is compatible to this camera.

The camera takes a bit longer time get into picture taking mood and to save the pictures to the memory card. It could be problem if you want to capture a momentum or moving object at once, for example firework, a bird flying. You have to wait around 3/4 secs in between taking 2 pictures.

This is a great little camera. Very neat and easy to use.

Would recommend this product to anyone who needs a simple to use camera.

Also, the software that comes with it was dead simple to understand and has a neat little editing program on it to really make items stand out.

The camera arrived 3 days after payment which is good, in good working order, with batteries included. The price was amazing for the camera.
The only downside was the postage price!

Brilliant product - wanted to buy it as a first digital camera for my Sister - and she loves it. It does almost all the things my camera does!

Purchased the camera on looks/style/brand. However was truely delighted with purchase. Camera gives great quality photographs ease of use and easy instructins (not to technical).
Pictures can be deleted from camera before you upload to computer etc (view button for what pics you have just taken) that way saves you time on the ones you don't want. Easy zoom in/out button.
Im not to good with camera's but this was definitely an excellent buy. Memory card was also easy to set up (3 mintues).
All round a brilliant camera.

I bought this camera as a birthday present for my 10 yr. old daughter. We looked at the manual ONCE when she wanted to check how to view back pictures she had just taken. Apart from that, it can be used as a real click-and-go camera. The pictures she has taken with it so far have been great and the big screen seems to make it very easy for her to choose very good composition in her pictures (fingers crossed she's got an eye for it as well!). Truth be told, she's only had it for a month and since I bought a 1GB memory card at the same time, we have not even sat down yet to download pictures or print off any, so I cannot comment on those aspects of the camera yet. I also bought a case with it to keep it well protected, but one of the very useful features if you do not have a case with it is that the on/off switch is slightly receded in the frame of the camera to ensure it won't switch itself on when eg. carried in a pocket or hand bag. In summary, so far a great buy and a recommended little piece of kit! One tip: do shop around a bit, as it was launched a while ago, so there are deals to be had. You should be able to buy one for approx. £70 new.

The Samsung A503 is no longer produced so eBay was my best option to buy one.

I managed to buy one still new in its box with accessories.

The A503 is a brilliant camera with many functions that the newer versions have.

The controls are easy to master and it fits your hand and pocket nicely.

With a 2Gb SD card fitted you have the capability of taking around 30 minutes of good video footage or endless photos.

Because it is a fixed lens you do not use battery power up as fast as a variable focus camera. It has however got a 5x digital zoom which works well although the LCD screen begins to look fuzzy as you zoom in, but the picture is quite clear.

The only two things that I criticise it on are:-

1. You have no zoom in or out when using the movie mode.
2. The image stabiliser only works on ‘auto’ setting (with no flash being used).
